Gervais achieved mainstream fame with his award-winning BBC2 television programme The Office, which he co-wrote and co-directed with long-time friend and collaborator Stephen Merchant. Besides writing and directing the show, Gervais played the lead role of David Brent.

In 2005, Gervais returned to BBC Television with his new sitcom, Extras.

He was one half of the pop duo, Seona Dancing, who had minor success in the early 80's.

A quick google search of "brethren and sistren" reveals the thread is called The Ten Commandments and their Punishments on the Landover Baptist Church Forum dating to 2008, a well known FICTIONAL church and satirical website. In other words everything written there is a parody purely for humour it's not supposed to be serious

@beenn15 I used to think the same but now i wonder. Einstien said "you cannot solve problems with the same level of conciousness that created them" This applies to everything ofc. With that in mind if a Human cannot create a fish for example how did the fish create itself? Evolution is the name given to an unknown force. May be one day people will know for sure :)

In short, God could not have done as you suggest and appeared for many reasons, but most importantly that God keeps every promise he makes and has deadly serious reasons for making them. Also, your parents did not create you. They conceived and birthed you. God created you.

Yes but he argues one of the supports for your point so it was completely relevent you don't get to blow it out of the water and say that he isn't arguing against your main point instead restate your main point and be adamant that you won't tolerate further argumentation unless that point is acknowledged.

In the tags it also says Stephen Merchant, so while the main person talking is Ricky, but Stave is the one that responds and comments here and there

Wow. That's a pretty strong failure to understand the prophesy. The leopard, with four heads and four wings was the Greek empire, which conquered the Medo-Persians (the Bear with three ribs in its mouth - Three victorious wars, including the defeat of Babylonia) which was later conquered by Rome (the terrible beast with iron teeth and 10 horns - 10 nations that came out of the fall of the roman empire.)

"genocide" of Cain's civilization, who were wicked and committed every kind of atrocity and held every kind of evil notion in their minds that exists. God created man and had every right to expect us to abide by rules he gave to us, most especially since the rules were for our own good. When the entire world had rebelled against him to the point there was no returning it to communion with God the flood was the only solution left. Even the flood was from God's love. I agree, the true origins of EVERYTHING, I don't know if we'll ever know. When does the "this was created by what?" redundancy end. Then this dark matter comes into play and whatnot. What I meant was, you look at something synthetic, and we both know that has a creator. This doesn't necessarily apply to something natural. In the simple case of certain viral strains, they are not the same as they were prior to anti-biotics, they have evolved resistances all on their own to survive.

It really surprises me when Ricky Gervais says he's a good person. He's a funny person. Entertaining and well loved. But he's one of the most sadistic, cruel, vicious, remorselessly insulting, criticizing, self-loving celebrities in the public eye. And that's what he presents on a PR front. Imagine what things he does that he's actually ashamed of, when he thinks no one can see. No Ricky, you are a good person because you've defined yourself as good. With great sadness, God will not agree.

Don't be scared. The church and forum are fictional. The town it is supposedly based in (Freehold, Iowa) is not in existence. This is all just a joke to make fun of Christians. I don't know if Ricky Gervais knows that and uses it for his jokes or if he uses this church unaware that it is not real.

Further, there is a man in the line of Seth named Methuselah. You may not accept the ages of the early patriarchs as possible/literal (point in fact I don't know they are full genealogies so much as excepts of one), but taken literally, Methuselah was alive while Adam was alive, and lived 969 years. That number adds up exactly to Noah's birth + age + time until the flood. The people who died in the flood knew a person who knew the man and woman who had *walked with God in Eden before the fall.*

Without shame or apology, indeed so. God's retribution for sin is fearsome and terrible. Yet he is abiding, merciful and loving too. You presume that a man gave that order, and think how terrible that man would be, and you are right. But God gave that command. God created the very universe and created humanity. God dictates who lives, who dies and the very standard of justice, for he is perfectly just. If you assume God exists, to make an argument for how terrible he is, assume the rest too.

It sounds like you personally need god to be a good person, which is fine, but you need to realise this is not the case for everyone else. Also personally I believe it's natural and uncontrollable to hate, it's the rejection of that hatred that is the very core of being a decent human being, and I'm assuming you did that so, while not being a saint exactly, I'd say you were a good person anyway.

I understand their lack of understanding, such as to whom the laws were written to, or the consequences that the dude who wrote the article seemed to be very close-minded on-- but the way they throw insults to it all makes my heart ache. People talk about coexisting happening? Doubt it. I understand it's for comedy, but religion is personal. It's like joking about death.

First, the Vatican would never say an apology is necessary for God's actions. Many many things the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox and Anglican and nearly every denomination of church (meaning sinful men and women) have done can't even be apologized for, but only repented. No true Christian following Christ's principles would want to punish anyone. They would know that God said judge not, for he is the only judge. They would know Christ told them to love even their enemies as themselves.

I'm not saying religion doesn't help the individual in many cases or that it doesn't provide comfort. But just because something makes you feel good doesn't make it true. Saying faith gives people strength isn't proof of god. That sir is naive. Your insults to me are all hilariously ironic. I KNOW a world with only atheists would be more peaceful. I'm not claiming for a second that all violence would be gone. But at least we wouldn't have nutters forcing laws and wars based on a superstition.

God appeared to Moses through a sign. He walked with Adam and Eve in the garden and possibly with Enoch, descendent of Seth (third son of Adam) who walked faithfully with God for 300 years and did not die, but was taken up by God to heaven directly. To Noah, Abram and Isaac, and Mary, mother of Christ and others, yes. All of these were however, were *righteous* children of God. God gave us free will. We must choose him, by faith, without his intervention. Humanity turns away *willingly* by sin.

And yet there are thousands of people who manage to change their ways for the better without any external help. I guess some people just can't tell the difference between right and wrong for themselves and require someone to tell them. I guess that's why religious people can do such hateful things. If you can't simply do the right thing because it's the right thing, then you're open to the influence of others telling you what's right.

The big bang isn't a natural cause. It requires as much blind faith as any religion because we weren't there to witness it and in fact have no physical evidence- only knowledge from those who were closer to the beginning than we were. "What created it ALL" Atoms, molecules or dirt all coming together and exploding- those had to be created too. One could say God had to be created as well, but that creator would just have to be another god. Also, kinda lost me, could you expand on first sentence?

When you accept Christ and are saved, the Holy Spirit enters you. God works in you not just to help you resist sin but to become a better person. Atheists criticize Christians for not behaving as Christ commands us to (even though I know some who do.) Prove us wrong by example. Love your enemies as if they were *you*. Treat *everyone* kindly. Accept wrongs done to you and do not look to redress them. If everyone lived this way imagine what paradise we would be in. Then try faith when you fail.

You've proven creation exists based off of the human ability to create. This doesn't mean all cosmic things require some Divine creator, it's just as likely to be a natural cause. Please, don't talk to me about extreme experiences, and it is not necessarily "supernatural" but naturally confusing, such as all the aspects of fear, love, etc. I will not debate you on the existence of Christ, I believe he existed as well, this does not make him the offspring of a diety.

How do you know what God wants you to believe and doesnt? Why would God not get a New book made if his old book had been tamped with by men and changed his words? He would know this has happened.. and would change it as The Bible is holy and the WORD of God and he would not want some fake parts in there.

and i respect other people religions, i have 2 freinds (well had 2 freinds that are athiest) and never forced them or tried to teach them about God only when they asked me question about Him. i've stopped beiong friends with them cuz they kept telling me that he doesnt exist, and i told them many times to stoped telling that butr they didnt. but i respect other people belives adn religion.

Friend, that old story book contains thousands of inerrant prophesies, many of which have come explicitly true. Look up the prophesy of Daniel, or hundreds pointing to every aspect of Christ's first coming. It sounds to me like you do not know the gospel or God's message at all. God created us in his image, but when we sin, we hurt ourselves, permanently, and everyone around us, and God. You think God should just forgive those offenses because he is merciful, but he is also perfectly just.

Creation, conscience and Christ. Creation does exist, and had to be created- either by itself or God, and the lack of entropy in our increasing-entropy in this world points to God. Conscience is partially supernatural and more real to those who have been in extreme experiences-- something has to be the cause. There is more evidence towards Christ than Julius Caesar.

As I said dear friend, 2000 years of man's sins are not only too many to name but they are too terrible to be apologized for, only capable of being repented and forsaken. Nowhere does the Bishop imply God sinned. That concept contradicts every basic idea of the Bible. To your second question, please understand I do not judge, nor mean to. I warn, encourage, exhort, remind and witness to people out of sincere love. Never do I claim to define who is saved, only how God's word says we can be saved.

Would you believe if God came down and presented Himself for your perusal? Would you obey Him, turn from all your sins (as He defines them, and not as you do) and worship Him for dying on the cross for you? Or would you spit on Him, and hate Him for requiring obedience and righteousness of you by His standard? Tell the truth in your own heart... you would hate Him, calling it unfair that He require of you obedience of He will judge you and cast you into hell for your wicked acts and rebellion.

Luke 8:4-15 - The Parable of the Sower. If you say you were a Christian, you might know it. If you were a Christian, did you ever study the Bible? I have spoken to many atheists who say they have studied the Bible. None of them actually had. A few had read various books (usually just Genesis), like you might read a novel. But that isn't studying and helps you glean nothing of the interwoven message that connects throughout the Bible, Old and New Testament.
