Nowhere
Ride Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I should have known better,
Than to expect it all.
You want everything,
And you end up grabbing at air.

I had so much to give,
So much hope, we held each other high.
But the heroes are gone,
And all that's left is you and me.

I learned the hard way,
That life should be easy,
But I want you to know it was hard to show,
The things that I know now.

And all that's left is you and me,

And here we are,
Nowhere.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ride's song "Nowhere" seem to explore feelings of disappointment and regret in a failed relationship. The first verse sets the tone of the song, with the singer lamenting that they should have known better than to expect everything to work out perfectly. They recognize that their partner wanted everything, but in the end, they were left with nothing but empty air.

In the second verse, the singer reflects on the hope and potential they had shared with their partner. They held each other up as heroes, but now that dream is gone, and they are left to face the reality of the relationship. They acknowledge that life is not easy and that they've learned this lesson the hard way. However, the hardest part of all is letting go of the things they know and moving forward with the remaining person - the one symbolized by the lyrics, "all that's left is you and me."

The chorus drives home the sense of desolation, as the singer states that they are now "Nowhere," with nothing but each other as their only company. The repeated use of this phrase emphasizes the emptiness and hopelessness of their situation.

Overall, the song seems to express a sense of resignation and sadness about a relationship that has failed to live up to its potential. It's a poignant reminder that sometimes love isn't enough to make things work out, and that life isn't always easy.

Studying at University. The intercom rings, I answer, my friends tell me I need to leave with them NOW.
Why? You're coming with us to Washington DC.
Why? We're going to the 930 Club to hear Lush and Ride.

Perhaps the greatest show I have ever experienced - to the sound-person, so much appreciation for their good work.
No earplugs, feeling the music physically without chemical assistance, insane distortion, sounds within the sound... brilliance.
Classes were missed next day.
My hearing only fully recovered (lol) after about a week.
Thanks, friends - I haven't seen you in decades, but this will never be forgotten.

One of my favorite Ride songs ever.

Very experimental I would say, definitely different from all the other stuff on this album, I like the wave sounds in the end together with the fuzzy guitar
