The Dawn Patrol
Ride Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well the night, it ends so slowly
As the last small fires go out
One by one on the hillsides
With the people hanging out
We were wrapped in just a blanket
Must've been a pretty sight
As we followed up the mountain
To sleep under the light

I was shivering and shaking
In my shoes
When The Dawn Patrol it took me
And shook away my blues

Well you know that funny feeling
You get sometimes, now and then
When you feel like you can't make it
And you want to start again
When I get that funny feeling
It's with you I wanna be

In the hours before daylight
Would you be my company

Overall Meaning

The Dawn Patrol by Ride is a song about experiencing nature at its peak moments, particularly during dawn. The first stanza describes the slow end to the night as small fires go out one by one on the hillsides. A group of people are wrapped in blankets, and they follow a certain path up the mountain to sleep under the light. This could be referring to the stars above. The singer of the song is filled with emotions as he is shivering and shaking in his shoes, conveying a sense of vulnerability. However, as the dawn patrol comes for him, it takes away his blues, the sense of sadness or depression, and replaces it with a feeling of joy and freedom.

In the second stanza, the singer talks of a "funny feeling" that he gets sometimes - a desire to move forward and start again. He expresses the desire to share these moments with someone special, particularly during the hours before daylight. The song conveys a sense of wonder and excitement for nature, but it also touches on themes of loneliness and the need for companionship.

Underrated album

@ghostofWatTyler

only about 7 decent songs on this album, the remainder were a crock of shite unfortunately, IMO. However, the 7 decent songs are really good, esp this, Ride the Wind, Sunshine/Nowhere to Run & Burnin'
