Walk on Water
Ride Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Beautiful Lady, I love you so
You know I need you, please don't go
Just like a child, I'm running wild
I'd walk on water for your smile

I'd walk across the sea
To get you close to me
This life we're living, it can break your heart
But all these contradictions won't pull us apart

Don't be afraid, I'm gonna stay
Felt like the end, but it was just the start

Overall Meaning

The above lyrics are from the song "Walk on Water" by Ride that is taken from their album "Carnival of Light". "Walk on Water" is a romantic song about a man who is deeply in love with his lady and is willing to do anything to keep her pleased. The lines "Beautiful Lady, I love you so" signify that the woman he is addressing is beautiful and he loves her deeply. His love for her is so immense that he can't imagine spending a moment without her. He expresses his need for her by saying, "You know I need you, please don't go".

The next lines are more metaphorical in nature, "Just like a child, I'm running wild; I'd walk on water for your smile." Here the singer says that he feels like a child when he is with his lover because he becomes ecstatic and carefree. The line "I'd walk on water for your smile" goes to show that the extent to which the singer is willing to go to keep his lover happy. The lyrics "I'd walk across the sea, to get you close to me" exemplifies that the singer is willing to go to any length, even if that means going out of his way, to keep his lover near.

The verse "This life we're living, it can break your heart, but all these contradictions won't pull us apart. Don't be afraid, I'm gonna stay, felt like the end, but it was just the start" shows that life can be arduous, with its fair share of ups and downs, but the singer assures his lover that he won't be dissuaded by any of life's trials and tribulations. The love of the singer is steadfast, and he is willing to stay, come what may. That on the horizon, it is a promising start and not an end, which means that there's still time left for them to stick together.

TARANTULA is so underrated. It rocks harder than anything else they ever did.

@pyenapple

Sure, if you like Allman Brothers better than My Bloody Valentine then this is definitely the Ride album for you. Hahahahaha

I think "cute" is the most appropriate word to describe this song. Love it.

@579enact

The opening bars of this are totally sublime, it could have been a really great song if they'd kept that vibe going and let it breathe instead of swamping it with that grungy rock sound. Ah well, never mind eh.

@VladimirBarriere

Stone Roses took care of that part!

@SecretGerms
