Sinclair also has an extensive list of co-writing credits, dozens of cuts on other albums. Just You and Me
Rie Sinclair Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or am I foolishly wasting my time
Try so hard to quiet my expensive dreams
Before they take me out, leave me wondering
Baby, it's just You & Me, we got a thing they cant shake
Maybe, it's a little hard sometimes to take
But I'll tell you something, its a life worth living
Is it all a market war in this economy
Filling up headlines with our fantasy
System fails hard & we fall apart sometimes
But then you pull me back with your quiet smile
The lyrics to Rie Sinclair's song Just You And Me are a reflection of the struggle of living in a modern world where one is confronted with the harsh realities of an unforgiving society. In the first two lines of the verse, the singer asks whether she needs to be invisible to just survive or if she is foolishly wasting her time. This suggests that she is considering the possibility of giving up on her dreams and ambitions in order to conform to what society deems acceptable. She goes on to say that she tries hard to quiet her expensive dreams before they take her out, leaving her wondering. This suggests that the singer fears that pursuing her dreams might lead to failure and disappointment, leaving her with nothing but regrets.
However, despite these doubts and fears, the chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of the relationship between the singer and her partner. "Baby, it's just You & Me, we got a thing they can't shake" suggests that the bond between the singer and her partner is unbreakable, regardless of what the outside world might throw at them. While the line "Maybe, it's a little hard sometimes to take" acknowledges that the relationship is not perfect, the singer goes on to assert that it is still "a life worth living". The final line of the chorus, "Just so you know, I wouldn't give it up, no" reinforces this idea, suggesting that the relationship is an important source of strength and support for the singer in a world where everything else seems uncertain.
In summary, Rie Sinclair's song Just You And Me deals with the struggle of living in a society where pursuing one's dreams can feel futile and hopeless. However, despite these struggles, the song emphasises the importance of finding strength in the relationships we have with others, and the value of living a life that is true to ourselves.
