Final Goodbye
Rihanna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never should of waited so long to say
What I've always known since the very first day
Thought that you would stay forever with me
But the time has come to leave

Before we turn out the lights and close our eyes
I'll tell you a secret I've held all my life
Its you that I live for, and for you I die
So I'll lay here with you 'til the final goodbye

Hold, draw me close, close to my lips
Listen intently as I tell you this
Outside the world wages its wars
I'll rest in peace as long as you know

Before we turn out the lights and close our eyes
I'll tell you a secret I've held all my life
Its you that I live for, and for you I die
So I'll Lay here with you 'til the final goodbye

Promise you our love will carry on
Until you turn eternal, we belong

Before we turn out the lights and close our eyes
I'll tell you a secret I've held all my life
Its you that I live for, and for you I die
So I'll lay here with you 'til the final goodbye
His respectful lips for the last time
And spell out the lyrics to love in the sky
Its you that I live for and for you I die
So I'll lay here with you till the final goodbye

Goodbye

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rihanna's song Final Goodbye are a heartfelt confession of love and loyalty to a partner. The singer regrets that she waited too long to express her feelings, but now that it's time to part ways, she wants to reveal a secret that she's kept for her whole life - that it's her partner she lives for and would die for. The outside world is depicted as a place of warfare, but the singer finds comfort and peace in her partner's company. She promises that their love will carry on even after death, and in the end, she wants to lay with her partner until the final goodbye.

The lyrics suggest that the singer's love is pure and selfless - she's willing to give everything she has for her partner. The song conveys a sense of finality and sadness, as the singer knows that their time together is coming to an end. However, there's also a sense of acceptance and peace, as the singer finds solace in her partner's love, even in the face of death.

A Girl Like Me was her best album for vocals in my opinion. It's a very underrated album. I don't think a lot of her fans actually know that unless they were Day 1's. I hate that she changed her style, but she reminds me every so often that she can actually sing.

@jamiapoole5263

Geena H I definitely second that opinion

@darismarcabrera5303

Very true, but she can still sing. Imagine a writer who writes a series of books with the same beginning and ending, would you still read the series. She also follow the majority of her fans & compete with other artists.

@1jayrome

She went more towards pop for better mainstream success,it was actually a better move to make with this ever changing industry.

@seristheoracleoftheabyss3325

Rated r is her best vocal album and her best overall album

@braydenshetrompf8764

@@1jayrome a year late but her first 2 albums were pure pop, reggae and r&b. (With her second album having some hip hop and soul in it), now she is modestly hip hop, r&b, and edm, she doesn’t do a lot of pop songs anymore (but she has moderate pop influence in most of her songs)

@Tamarashadow
