Jesus Cries
Riley Clemmons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's no secret that life gets a little heavy sometimes
Like it's too much for one heart to take
Your smile's wearing thin
Just tryna hold it all in
But it feels like the dam's gonna break

You are not alone facing that flood behind your eyes
Heaven already knows every tear that you cry

So let 'em fall like the rain
Let 'em roll down your face
Let 'em run like a river
That carries your pain
To the Savior with scars
Right there, holding your heart
When you weep, He's there weeping with you
Jesus cries too

There's no answer sometimes
For the hurt that's inside
When the healing feels so far away
But in the ache of your soul
There's a love that comes close
And catches your tears when they're all you can pray

Let 'em fall like the rain
Let 'em roll down your face
Let 'em run like a river
That carries your pain
To the Savior with scars
Right there, holding your heart
When you weep, He's there weeping with you
Jesus cries too
Jesus cries too

At the edge of the grave
In the valley of pain
When the sadness won't shake
It's true
(Jesus cries too)

When the suffering is long
When you can't see the dawn
He feels all the sorrow with you
Jesus cries too
Jesus cries too
Yeah, yeah

Let 'em fall like the rain
Let 'em roll down your face
Let 'em run like a river
That carries your pain
To the Savior with scars
Right there, holding your heart
When you weep, He's there weeping with you
He's never been closer, it's true
Jesus cries too

Overall Meaning

In "Jesus Cries," Riley Clemmons captures the profound emotional struggles that everyone faces at different points in their lives. The opening verses illuminate the burden of carrying one's pain alone, portraying a relatable image of the heaviness that can accompany life's challenges. This heaviness manifests in the singer's dwindling smile and the internal struggle to suppress emotions that threaten to spill over, likened to a dam on the verge of breaking. This image serves as a metaphor for the overwhelming nature of sorrow and despair that can feel too heavy for one person to bear. The lyrics convey a sense of isolation, an all-too-common feeling when grappling with profound heartache, underlining the vulnerability inherent in the human experience.

The subsequent verses offer solace and reassurance by asserting that no one is truly alone in their suffering. The song connects the listener's pain to a higher presence that understands and empathizes with their struggles. By saying "Heaven already knows every tear that you cry," Clemmons emphasizes the idea that there is divine awareness and compassion towards human suffering. This acknowledgment not only provides comfort but also invites the listener to release their pent-up emotions. The imagery of tears falling like rain serves as a potent metaphor for healing; it suggests that expressing grief is a natural and necessary process. The metaphorical river that carries one’s pain to "the Savior with scars" reinforces the notion that even in moments of sorrow, there is hope, and Jesus, who experienced suffering, is intimately connected with our own pain.

As the song unfolds, it delves deeper into the complexities of healing and the feelings of helplessness that often accompany personal trauma. The acknowledgment that "there's no answer sometimes" speaks to the frequent lack of clarity or resolution in the midst of suffering. This sentiment resonates deeply with those who have felt abandoned or lost during trying times. Yet, amidst this confusion, the song offers a hopeful twist. There is a loving presence "that comes close," evoking the idea that even when comfort feels far away, one is never truly alone. This love acts like a safety net, gently collecting the listener's tears and emotions, reinforcing the intimate relationship one can have with a higher power during moments of vulnerability. The repetition of the phrase "Jesus cries too" becomes a comforting refrain, reminding listeners that their anguish is understood and shared at a sacred level.

The concluding verses poignantly capture the essence of shared suffering through vivid imagery of grief and loss. The acknowledgments of being "at the edge of the grave" or experiencing prolonged suffering amplify the emotional weight of the narrative. Here, Clemmons effectively communicates that sadness and pain can be relentless, further grounding the song in reality. The refrain of "Jesus cries too" reiterates a powerful message: that the divine is not removed from human emotions but intimately intertwines with them. In this way, the song acts as a reminder that vulnerability is not a weakness but a poignant part of the human experience. By embracing our pain and allowing ourselves to weep, we can connect more deeply with both ourselves and a higher power that understands and walks alongside us in our grief. The overall message is one of hope, healing, and the reassurance that expressing sorrow can lead to a deeper sense of connection and ultimately, healing.

@ThebestsongabouGod_123.

My husband was abused physically and had cancer as a child, when i met him he stuttered so bad he could barely state his name. Today he speaks clearly, is cancer free, and a great father to both our children. The victory belongs to Jesus!!
