Boys
Ringo Starr Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm just a bad boy
All dressed up in fancy clothes.
I'm taking the trouble
To blow my bubbles away.

Bad boy
Life is just a bowl of cherries.
I'm taking the trouble
To turn my night into day.

The hot blazing sun
Won't hurt my head,
'cause you'll always find me
Right there in the shade.
I can see all the folks,
They're laughing at me,
'cause I'm just a naturally, crazy, lazy

Bad boy
Life is just a bowl of cherries.
I'm taking the trouble
To turn my night into day.

The hot blazing sun
Won't hurt my head,
'cause you'll always find me
Right there in the shade.
I can see all you folks,
You're laughing at me,
'cause I'm just a naturally, crazy, lazy

Bad boy
All dressed up in these fancy clothes.
And I'm taking the trouble
To blow my bubbles away.

Bad boy.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band's song 'Boys' is an exemplification of an individualistic lifestyle and carefree attitude. The persona of the song, a 'bad boy,' is confident and comfortable in his own skin, conveyed through his choice of fancy clothes and the attitude of going against the societal expectations. The lyrical references to cherries and bubbles provide an insight into the persona's love for pleasures that make life worth living. Despite the apparent nonchalance portrayed in the lyrics, the bad boy takes responsibility for his life by choosing to "turn his night into day" and "blowing his bubbles away," stressing on living in the present moment.

The bad boy's attitude towards life is presented distinctly in the lyrics. While the world is going through a scorching sun, his mere presence in the shade highlights his rejection of the conventional mode of life. Even though people may pass judgment by laughing at him, the bad boy remains unapologetically crazy and lazy, both character traits that define his self-expression. The overall message of the lyrics suggest that life is to be lived to the fullest by enjoying simple pleasures, and the critics' opinions should not deter the pursuit of individualistic happiness.

This is another example of Ringo Starr at his best. He's still playing the drums and singing after all these years. Long live Ringo Starr and his legacy!

My grandma bought tickets to the Ringo Starr concert here in Spokane. So she and I are going to go. I saw rain which is a cover band of the beatles. But my grandma saw the real beatles when she was my age. Then she and my grandpa saw Paul McCartney and wings in concert in about 1990 or so. but now I get to see the one and only Ringo Starr in concert. It will be PHENOMENAL and the best day of my life.

@pelgervampireduck

wings didn't exist anymore since 1980. the 1990 band was not wings, it was just paul mccartney and his touring band, (hamish stuart and robbie mcintosh on guitars, wix wickens on keyboards and chris witten on drums. wix wickens still is his keyboardist). that tour was good, I love the album "tripping the live fantastic" and the video "get back" that came out of it.
