Ripe Banana Skins Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Everybody is gonna keep on lying to us so we better watch out
Ignoring what people think of us, we gotta do what we gotta do
That's right, we really don't give a fuck!
So what's your definition of being cool?
You're struggling with your life to be someone true!
We got the sound that's gonna make you trip, the trip's gonna be long
We gotta do what we gotta do, ska punk is our badge of pride!
That's right, we are the Ripe Banana Skins!
So what's your definition of being cool?
You're struggling with your life to be someone true!
"Well let me tell ya how's gonna be, we gotta go through all the nations
With six senses, we're gonna make ya feel real, ire in the sky"
Pump up the volume, feel the rhythm! Super fly, Paraguayan style!
Pump up the volume, feel the rhythm! Hear this reggae music,
We're coming' down! We got the reggae motion, feel the reggae motion
We're the Ripe Banana Skins, we're coming' to your town
The lyrics of the song R.b.s. by Ripe Banana Skins speak about the band's outlook on life and their pride in their music genre, ska punk. The band expresses their distrust in authority and the media's portrayal of reality as they believe that everyone lies to them about what is true and what is not. Despite this, they urge themselves to focus on their own goals rather than worry about what others think of them. The band's passion for ska punk music shines through in their lyrics. They describe it as their "badge of pride," which suggests that the genre is not just their preferred musical style but also a significant part of their identity.
The lyrics also explore the theme of individualism and the struggle to be true to oneself, rather than striving to meet society's definition of "cool." The chorus questions the listener's definition of being cool, implying that it may not align with the band's definition, which is to simply do what they need to do without caring about what others think. Through this, the band distinguishes itself from mainstream society and finds solidarity in their identity as members of the Ripe Banana Skins.
Overall, the lyrics are a powerful declaration of the band's commitment to their music and individuality. The words suggest the importance of staying true to oneself, following one's passions, and not being easily swayed by cultural norms or social expectations.
