Rather than attempting to draw the listener's attention to the riffs and breakdowns and away from the lyrics, Rise Over Run actually use their heaviness in strengthening their motivational message. Basing "Reclaim And Conquer" solely on it's instrumentation would be an injustice, because while a solid album musically, the spirit and message are what elevates this album above the rest.

While most listeners will probably label "Reclaim And Conquer" as another metalcore album, one must really emphasize the 'core' portion of the genre. Sure, the vocals are screamed in a deep pitch, the guitars are heavy, and there is an abundance of double bass kicks, but Rise Over Run actually complete the package with some of the better lyrics I've heard, and some oldschool hardcore tendancies. There is no denying that lines like "My dreams are all I have left, make them the foundations for life. Spark my will, leave all hopelessness behind" will touch emotions, while the others like "You can pray for me, I don't give a fuck" will inspire gang vocals and flying fists as Rise Over Run enters "Destined To Fail's" emphatic breakdown. In any case, though, the musicianship is tight, though not overwhelming, and ranges from blazing, metallic hardcore, to chunkier, mosh-inducing riffs and percussion.

In a time when mosh-metal bands are a dime a dozen, it is truly refreshing to come across one with substance that extends past good breakdowns. Such is the case for Rise Over Run. Serving up a solid helping of oldschool hardcore's aggression blended with rich, metallic guitar parts and a rumbling low end, this band may sound like something that has been done before, but Rise Over Run's genuine sincerity and urgency is not to be dismissed.
