The band is operated by singer/songwriter/keyboardist Risto Ylihärsilä, whose alter ego, Risto, adventures in the songs. Ylihärsilä has stated that even though there may be definitive similarities between his persona and Risto of his songs, the latter is still a fictional character.

The lyrics mostly deal with Risto's personal life that is strongly enhanced by psychedelic drugs, mental instability (seems to be some kind of paranoid schizophrenia) and weird visions. Although dealing with subjects that are often idolized in music, Risto conveys these experiences with such sincerity, rawness, and humor that the listener cannot withhold sympathy for the poor soul wandering through drug-induced psychoses and seeing visions of squirrels, heaven and the face of God.

Although signed to a small independent label ( Fonal Records), Risto has achieved wide coverage in media and rather big sales with its last album Aurinko aurinko plaa plaa plaa (translated: Sun Sun Blah Blah Blah).

Overall Meaning

In Risto's song "Annukan kaa," the singer recounts a night out with a woman named Annuka. They went to a bar where there was just the right amount of dim lighting for the singer. Although he's not enjoying the spring, he recognizes that it's a time when people start to come out of their shells and engage with each other. He jokes about the idea of people peeking into each other's windows to confirm that their Venetian blinds are open. As they chat, the singer feels restless but manages to keep up with the rhythm of the song, until the conversation momentarily pauses. At this point, Annuka buys him a drink, and he asks for lemon soda. She calls him her darling, and he realizes that she's the light of his life.

However, the singer is struggling without his mood medication, and he starts to feel as though he's experiencing love. After taking his medication, he realizes that he is, indeed, feeling something deeper with Annuka. He repeats the phrase, "it must be quite much love" and concludes the song.

"Annukan kaa" is a story about recognizing love and appreciating the small moments of connection that occur on a night out. The dim lighting, the lemon soda, and the playful teasing contribute to the overall sense of whimsy and joy in the song.
