Rita Hovink wanted to be a theater actress when she was younger. She succesfully participated in 1959 at a talenthunt by Max van Praag, and she decided to become a singer. Her first performance was in the Herman van Keeken-show. After that she joined the Jonge Flierefluiters en the Leather Jackets, and performed many times for the American soldiers based in Germany. Hoving sang in Dutch and in English.
In 1964 Hovink was part of the Dutch team at the Knokke Festival, and they won the 1st prize. In the same year her debutsingle was released titled Yeah yeah yeah, her 3rd single , Die eerste zoen, became a hit. In 1969 her 1st album was released titled Love me or Leave me. As from 1976 Hovink had numerous hits, Laat me alleen was one of them.
In 1978 Rita Hovink got very sick. She had several big operations, appeared to be recovering, but eventually died in 1979 at the age of 35, as a result of breastcancer.
After Hovinks death, a Best of album was released. In 1981 the single Laat me alleen was re-released and had a small succes. In 1986 a new compilationalbum with the same title was released.

Mardalan gookon jou-joi i
Tuaka tondok sisolhot
Dongan sahutai
Hape topu unggil roham
To boruni namorai
Sadar inang alai pamasu
Masuan ta i
Lau pasuratni undanganmi
Maroan ma aka natorop
Mqngadopi pesta i
Tung l8mang jalan
Tar hatotong sadude
Lolonai alai sohada ho ito di labu ki
Gabe maila maila maila rohaki
Dang taralusiau ito
Sukun-sukun ni jolma i
Margabus ma damang
Dainang tu aka natorop i
Gabe iluku maraburan
Hapuasa di arsakki
The lyrics of Rita Hovink's song Het Is Koud Zonder Jou can be interpreted as a lament over a lost love. The first stanza uses a mix of Indonesian and Batak Toba language to express the feeling of pain and longing. The lines "Hape dukkon, Mardalan gookon jou-joi" can be translated to "my heart aches, my soul is lonely without you", while "Tuaka tondok sisolhot, Dongan sahutai" means "I walk through the dark forest, hoping to hear your voice". The imagery of walking in the dark forest symbolizes the feeling of being lost and isolated after a breakup.
The second stanza continues with the expression of sadness and grief. The line "Lau pasuratni undanganmi, Maroan ma aka natorop" can be interpreted as a reference to the wedding invitation that the singer received from her ex-lover. The phrase "Masuan ta i, Dapot ma ari" means "I accepted it, but my heart still hurts". The singer then describes how she attends the wedding, feeling like an outsider at the festive event, and how she tries to hide her tears. The last line "Hapuasa di arsakki" means "I endure the pain in my chest", which shows that the singer is trying to cope with her emotions and move on, but is still deeply affected by the loss.
