The Groke
Ritual Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The leafage trembles as the garden holds its breath
In the cold night she is gliding towards the light
That cold empty gaze in her face it is not all right
She strides up to the window
The lamplight falls on her face
Indifference beyond comprehension causes fear
We are scared little creatures, we hide from her strange eyes,
Fearing her great loneliness will taint our lives
She strides up to the window
The lamplight falls on her face
Why is she so cold and lonely?
No one really knows, she only
Makes me feel uneasy
She strides up to the window
The lamplight falls on her face
She backs off from the window
She floats back into the night
The song "The Groke" by Ritual tells the story of a mysterious and lonely figure who appears in a garden on a cold night, shrouded in a freezing mist. The lyrics depict the eerie and unsettling atmosphere surrounding her, as the garden becomes eerily quiet and still. The Groke, as she is referred to, glides towards a light, her face empty and cold. When she appears at a window, the lamplight falls on her face, highlighting the indifference and loneliness that emanates from her. The singer acknowledges their own fear of her and the unease she creates, as if her great loneliness could taint their lives.
The Groke is a fascinating character, as the lyrics suggest she is a creature that frightens even the bravest of us. The lyrics describe her as being alone, and the singer wonders why she is so cold and lonely. The song seems to be a reflection on loneliness and the impact it can have on others. It raises questions about why we fear those who are different from us and highlights the discomfort faced around people we don't understand. The Groke reminds us that loneliness is a universal human experience and that even those who are different deserve compassion and understanding.
