Throughout his childhood, James would sing regularly, but never in public.[2] He eventually moved to New York where he was influenced by his aunt, a former singer for Prince.[3] His love for the album Purple Rain landed him in a studio at the age of 19.[3] His skills as a songwriter began with the song Portrait, leading up to a credit on the single Use Me by R&B singer Miguel[4] after forming a bond with him on MySpace.[5]
James performed in and around New York with artists such as Luke James and Wynter Gordon. In 2013 he released his first EP, a three-part entitled Coke, Jack and Cadillacs. Each part represented important themes in his life - first love, first drink, first car.[2] The WP featured songs that included A.D.I.D.A.S. and Pledge Allegiance. It also featured Asher Roth on the song Lisa.[6]
James signed with ByStorm Entertainment/RCA Records in 2015 and subsequently released Permission, his first single from a major record label, reaching #13 on the Adult R&B Songs chart.[1] His debut album, "ELDORADO" was released May 27, 2016. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard R&B albums chart
I'm sorry
Ro James Lyrics

You'd lie boy, you'd say anything
You'd be caught up, screaming in the moment
When you wake up, you don't remember a thing
I can't be what you need me to be for you
I'm sorry, so sorry
'Cause I can't be what you need me to be for you
I should've known when I found you
Should've known better than to fuck with you
Should've known not to lie you
But I can't let you go
Said I should've known how I found you
The truth looking for me, you know
Nut, I can't save your soul
So, I should've known
I can't be
I can't be what you need
So sorry
The above lyrics are from the chorus of Ro James's song "I'm Sorry," released in 2017. In this song, James sings about a complicated and ultimately doomed romantic relationship. The opening lines speak to a lack of trust and honesty in the relationship. The singer characterizes his partner as someone who will say anything to get what they want, even if it means lying. The dynamic between the two is passionate but dysfunctional, with the partner prone to fits of anger and manic behavior. The singer is left feeling guilty and unable to meet his partner's needs.
The second verse suggests that the singer became involved with his partner despite knowing better. He knew that lying to them would only make things worse, but he couldn't resist them. He admits that he should have known better than to start a relationship that he couldn't sustain. He also acknowledges that his partner may have been looking for something more meaningful and spiritual, but he is unable to provide that sort of connection.
The chorus repeats the refrain "I'm sorry," as if the singer is apologizing for his inability to meet his partner's expectations. The repetition of this phrase emphasizes the sense of guilt and regret that the singer is experiencing. The overall impression is one of a relationship that was doomed from the start due to a lack of trust and understanding.
