On April 19, 2005, he released a solo album, ...Something to Be. This marked the first time that a male artist from a rock or pop group has debuted at No 1 with their first solo album since Billboard introduced the chart 50 years ago. His first single off that album, Lonely No More, reached No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In January 2007, Rob Thomas released a single entitled Little Wonders , which he wrote for the Disney movie Meet the Robinsons.
In June of 2009 he released his 2nd solo album titled Cradlesong

In the first verse of “Streetcorner Symphony”, the singer starts the day with a positive outlook on life. The singer has “the taste of summer sweetness” in his/her mind, indicating that they feel good and that life feels good. He/She goes out into the world and sees that the day is clear and beautiful. He/She suggests that everyone should “come together”, and he/she feels that something is going to happen, that there is a powerful energy in the air. The choruses that follow are an invitation to everyone in the world, regardless of their color, to come to the corner and dance under the street lights, and to let go of their worries. The singer tells the listeners to “try to find a better life” and to find a way to “paint the perfect picture” of the world where all the colors run together in harmony.
