In 2003 he made his directorial debut with the release of the film 'House of 1000 Corpses' to a lukewarm reception, though it garnered quite a cult-following. Its sequel, 'The Devil's Rejects,' was released in 2005. It was received much better than the first film, even getting the 'thumbs up' from well-known film critic Roger Ebert. Also in his films is his wife Sheri Moon Zombie.
In March 2006, he released his newest album, entitled "Educated Horses". The album was a more stripped down, raw rock record, and quite a departure from the techno-industrial feel of the old Zombie albums. While this change, along with Zombie's change of appearance (he lost the dreadlocks and went back to his natural hair color, blonde), upset many of his fans, it allowed Rob to experiment with his style without deviating from his core fan base.
The new album also featured two new band members. John 5, of Marilyn Manson fame, and Tommy Clufetos, the former drummer for Ted Nugent and Alice Cooper, replaced Mike Riggs and John Tempesta, who had left the band in 2003 to work on other projects.
Hellbilly Deluxe 2, released in February 2010, is the first release where Rob Zombie worked with his full touring band. Previous albums were written and recorded by Rob Zombie himself and a rotating set of musicians. Commenting on the change, Zombie stated, "I've always had a revolving roster of studio and touring musicians, but the three guys in my band now have been on tour with me for years. So we're making it as a band. It's called Rob Zombie, but we're treating it like a band.
His half-brother, Michael Cummings is the lead singer of Powerman 5000.
The Ballad of Resurrection Joe and Rosa Whore
Rob Zombie Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cut the lights and pray that you're dead
Opium dreams through the seven dials
And feel the pillow over your head Rachel hide from Ned the crow
Keen eye on the peelers
Experiment from 53 and no scratch for the dealers
She wants some more Sweet Rosa Whore I say
Hell is love
She's a motherfucker
Resurrect me
Sleep well in your killing bed
Give a jig and show some life
Favor for a favor
Don't separate the pain from the knife
All the doctors sing you got to suffer for the cure
As the world fades away
You wonder where you were
The lyrics to Rob Zombie's song, The Ballad Of Resurrection Joe, are filled with dark and twisted imagery that seem to tell the story of a person who is haunted by their past and is struggling to move on. The opening line, "Insane blues at the green man inn" sets a foreboding tone, as if the singer is already in a place of despair. The next line, "Cut the lights and pray that you're dead" suggests that the singer is trying to escape the reality of their situation by hiding in the darkness, perhaps hoping to be consumed by it completely.
The mention of "opium dreams" and "seven dials" speaks to a sense of desperation and the desire to escape, while "feel the pillow over your head" implies a sense of suffocation or being trapped. The character of Rachel seems to be running from something, represented by "Ned the crow" and "the peelers". There is also a reference to some sort of experimentation, "from 53", which adds to the sense of unease in the lyrics.
As the song progresses, the chorus of "Resurrect me" becomes more insistent. The idea of wanting to be brought back to life, or brought back from the brink of death, is a recurring theme. The line "Hell is love, you say I must suffer" suggests that the singer is being forced to endure some kind of punishment or torment, but they still long for the resurrection that is promised in the chorus. The final line, "As the world fades away, you wonder where you were", is a haunting one. It suggests that the singer is losing touch with reality and is unsure of their place in the world.
Overall, The Ballad Of Resurrection Joe is a song filled with darkness and despair, but it is also strangely alluring in its twisted beauty.
