Trouble Child
Robb Nash Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never saw myself divided, but here I am
Standing shattered, all alone
You left me picking up the pieces
But I don't know how to do this on my own

You never heard me crying
And so I screamed
All of the words I craved
I never heard you say
I had to say them to myself
Time and again I tried
To walk with you by my side
But you just dragged me down
Cause you never heard my crying
And so I screamed
This is your trouble child

You never wanted me to make it, but here I am
Further than you thought I'd be
And every dream you tried to break it, but now I know
Where I end up is up to me.

You never heard me crying
And so I screamed

All of the words I craved
I never heard you say
I had to say them to myself
Time and again I tried
To walk with you by my side
But you just dragged me down
Cause you never heard my crying
And so I screamed
This is your trouble child

If you are someone who's dying like me
Trying to hide all the places you bleed
If you were thinking it's time to let go
Desperately begging for someone to know
If you are someone who's kinda like me
Desperately begging for someone to lead
I am here waiting and want you to know
That I hear you screaming and you're not alone

All of the words I craved
I never heard you say
I had to say them to myself
Time and again I tried
To walk with you by my side

But you just dragged me down
Cause you never heard my crying

Overall Meaning

The song "Trouble Child" by Robb Nash depicts the feeling of being abandoned, betrayed, and ignored by someone close. The lyrics are about a person who was never truly seen or heard by a loved one, and as a result, ended up feeling shattered and alone. The line "I never saw myself divided, but here I am" suggests that the person once felt whole and complete, but now feels torn into pieces. This could be a result of a relationship that didn't work out or losing someone they thought they could count on.

The chorus "All of the words I craved, I never heard you say" echoes the person's unrequited desire for validation, love, and support from the individual who has hurt them. The last line "This is your trouble child" could suggest that the person singing the song is holding the other person responsible for their pain and disrupted life.

However, the song ultimately offers hope and comfort to anyone who may be going through a similar experience. The bridge "If you are someone who's dying like me, trying to hide all the places you bleed" acknowledges that there are others who may be going through the same thing, and encourages them to reach out for help. The final lines "That I hear you screaming and you're not alone" reaffirms the message of the song, that no one has to suffer alone, and there is always the possibility of finding support and healing.

I saw this song along with One Last Breath, Thief Of Colors, Tell Me Why, and Hello Goodbye at my school earlier. You and your band put together some amazing songs and it reminded me of how I got through my emotions. Y'all are amazing at what you do. Keep doing it.

I remember when you came to my high school way back . the day you came to my school (sudbury secretary) I was gonna end it all and you honestly gave me another reason to live man . and I'm so thankful for it . I was 15 at the time I meet you in a extremely abusive relationship and drugs and I never thought I was good enough for anything. but now getting married once his whole virus is over to this amazing woman. I'm 20 now and I'm a uncle . thanks to you coming to my school when you did
