Fine Yesterday
Robert Cray Band Lyrics

What made you think that you could do that?
Summer shine. Rain so hard
I just had to scream, I never knew a storm so rough
Never knew a person so mean
Maybe by mornin' this will all go fume
And I'll pick up the pieces of my life
And forget about you
What made you think that you could do that?
Someone showed you? Wasn't anyone
I had no clue, I know that you're not sorry babe
By the things that you do
Same ol' winds, same one blew in today
Gonna change the direction, find you something
Wasn't any one, I had no clue,
No, you're not sorry, baby
Same ol' winds, same ones that blew in today
They're gonna change the direction, find you something
I was fine yesterday, said I was fine
Sun was shining
The Robert Cray Band's "Fine Yesterday" is a soulful expression of heartbreak and anger. The song is centered around the singer's reaction to a sudden breakup. The opening lines, "I was fine yesterday, what made you think that you could do that?" suggest that the singer was caught off guard by the breakup and is trying to understand why it happened. The juxtaposition of "summer shine" and "rain so hard" creates an atmosphere of confusion and frustration. The singer is trying to make sense of the storm that has hit them and is struggling to come to grips with the fact that they never knew a person could be so mean.
As the song continues, the singer's anger begins to build. They start to question whether the person who broke their heart was shown how to be so callous or if it was simply a part of their nature. The line "I know that you're not sorry babe, by the things that you do" suggests that this is not the first time that the person has acted in this way. The song ends with the singer vowing to pick up the pieces of their life and move on. The repetition of the phrase "same ol' winds" gives the impression that this is not the first time the singer has had to deal with heartbreak, but they are determined to change the direction of their life and find something better.

Mr. Cray's style's one of the most unique in a very crowded field of great players that appear to be more technically sound. The purity of what he does lies in the fact that he's note selcective and quite melodic when soloing but he can also play while he sings! There's not many in his class. He could easily be the heir apparent to B.B. King but he's more than just a blues guitar player. just ask Eric Clapton, John Mayer, and Jonny Lang just to name a few.
