Grzesznicy
Robert Gawliński Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Dzika miłość, dzikie wiersze, hipisowskie dni.
Miałem kumpla z piaskownicy, sprawdzić pragnął się.
W listach z Legii Cudoziemskiej pisał później, że
Smutno dziś do nieba iść, smutno dziś do nieba iść.
W telewizji dziś widziałem Jeruzalem w ogniu walk.
A na Manhattanie stosy diamentów cieszą wzrok.
W zachodzącym słońcu jak w Betlejem gwiazdy lśnią.
Smutno dziś do nieba iść, smutno dziś do nieba iść.
Tak pragniemy kochać, ale krwawy jest nasz Bóg.
Przeminą religie, lecz zostanie wojny duch.
Czekam więc na rewolucje naszych mądrych głów,
Czekam więc na rewolucje naszych serc i dusz.
Bo smutno dziś do nieba iść, smutno dziś do nieba iść.
Smutno dziś do nieba iść, smutno dziś do nieba iść.
The first verse of the song Grzesznicy by Robert Gawliński sets up the context for the rest of the lyrics. He mentions that he was raised in a place called Grochów and was exposed to the music of another Polish singer and writer, Grzesiuk. The next line talks about wild love, wild verses, and hippie days, which might signify the artist's past experiences in the early 1970s when he was growing up in Poland. He also mentions a childhood friend who wished to join the army but later wrote letters from a place called Cudoziemska Legia. The repetition of "Smutno dziś do nieba iść," which translates to "sad to go to heaven today," at the end of each verse expresses a sense of melancholy and sadness.
The second verse takes a shift towards current events in the world. The artist mentions seeing Jerusalem on fire on TV and young boys with weapons who are of his age. On the contrary, he also mentions looking at diamond stacks in the sunset of Manhattan, which highlights the stark differences between countries and people. The phrase "Smutno dziś do nieba iść" is repeated again, giving an overall feeling of sadness.
In the final verse, the artist talks about the paradoxical nature of humanity. While people strive to love each other, their God is depicted as bloody and unforgiving. He also believes that although religions may pass with time, the war caused by a lack of understanding and differences in opinions that come from people's spirits are likely to continue. But, he further says that he waits for a revolution among wise heads and hearts that can bring peace to the world. The use of "Smutno dziś do nieba iść" again signifies the sad state of the world filled with religious wars and hate.
