1) American rockabilly revivalist Robert Gordon (March 29, 1947 – October 18, 2022) grew up in Bethesda, M.D., a suburb of Washington D.C. Unlike many of his heroes, he had a relatively comfortable childhood. At a young age, after hearing Elvis Presley's Heartbreak Hotel, he was inspired to choose R'n'R as his future career path, according to Wikipedia. In the mid-seventies Gordon was a part of the then-flourishing downtown NYC punk scene, fronting the CBGB regulars, Tuff Darts (who appear on an early CBGB live compilation album). After recording one album with the band ("All for the Love of Rock 'n' Roll) he parted ways with the band to work with such artists as Link Wray and Chris Spedding, both of whom share a love for early rock 'n' roll and rockabilly. Bruce Springsteen wrote the song, Fire, for Gordon and played piano on the studio version which also features the guitar-legend Link Wray.

Yeah! My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat
Well she ain't got money, but man she's really got a lot.
Well I gotta gal, six feet four, sleeps in the kitchen
With her face at the door but,
My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she ain't got money, but man she's really got a lot.
Well she walks all night, talks all day
She's the kinda woman gotta have her way, but
My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she ain't got money, but man she's really got a lot.
Oh rock it...
Well she's the kinda woman who's a lounge-around
Spendin' my business all over town, but
My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she ain't got money, but man she's really got a lot.
Well she's a one mans woman which is what I like
But I wish she was a woman change her mind every night, but
My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat! (repeat)
Well she ain't got money, but man she's really got a lot.
The song "Red Hot" by Robert Gordon is a classic rockabilly tune that celebrates the musician's girlfriend and how she is different from others. The opening lines of the song, "My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat!" immediately establish that the singer's girlfriend is superior to others. The repetition of this line emphasizes this point and adds a playful, taunting quality to the song.
The characterization of the singer's girlfriend continues with the claim that "she ain't got money, but man she's really got a lot." This line suggests that the girlfriend may not have material wealth, but she has qualities that matter more, such as personality, intelligence, or humor. The next stanza includes a humorous lyric that describes the girlfriend as "six feet four" and "sleeps in the kitchen with her face at the door." This exaggeration adds to the fun, flirtatious tone of the song.
The final verse highlights the girlfriend's desire for independence and her assertiveness. The line "She's the kinda woman gotta have her way" affirms that the girlfriend is confident and strong-willed. The song concludes with a humorous contradiction, as the singer states he wishes his girlfriend would change her mind every night, but then declares that "My gal is red hot - your gal ain't doodley squat!" again, emphasizing how much he values his girlfriend.
Overall, "Red Hot" is a fun, upbeat song that celebrates a unique, spunky girlfriend who is anything but ordinary.
