Impossible
Robert Goulet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go.

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star.

This is my quest, to follow the star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right without question or pause
To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause.

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
Then my heart will lie peaceful and calm

When I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this.
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
Then my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this.
That one man scorned and covered with scars

Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.

The lyrics call out to the human spirit within us to strive to achieve the impossible, even if it means enduring hardships and suffering.

As the song progresses, the lyrics become increasingly inspirational, urging the listener to pursue their dreams with all their might, to fight for what is right, regardless of the cost, and to be willing to endure any amount of suffering and pain for the sake of a higher cause. The song then concludes with the idea that if we remain true to our dreams and pursue them relentlessly, even if we ultimately fail, we will leave this world a better place for having tried.

ROBERT GOULET THE MAN AND HIS LEGACY

I read some of the comment and although it does not surprise me how quickly people want to judge and knock someone down, it does sadden me. For your information my Robert was not a boozer but he was very sick when he agreed to do the Telethon for a very good cause. He was a talented, kind and generous man. Qualities that some of you here could use. I lost him shortly after. Vera Goulet (Mrs. Robert Goulet)

Disgraceful of people to speak ill of such a kind and generous soul. Not just a great talent but a good friend.

I miss him still.

God bless you Robert.

Sorry you have to suffer the idiots who unfortunately who always seem come out of the woodwork in online forums. My Dad who was a singer himself always said if he could choose to sound like any singer it would be Robert Goulet. He admired his talent ever since seeing him in the original run of Camelot.

This is the first I saw this, and your message; I have been a fan of Robert's since 1960. Robert had his ups and downs (who of us has not). I don't know to whom you are referring re comments, but please be assured that many of us loved Robert, and still do.

This is such a beautiful song of the love of Honor and integrity - what a song, what a beautiful voice Thank You Robert

James McKenzie

He knew how to sell this song and make it work despite the physical problems. Even makes it a little more poignant considering the lyrics.
