One Cup Of Coffee
Robert Marley Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One cup of coffee, then I'll go;
Though I just dropped by to let you know
That I'm leaving you tomorrow;
I'll cause you no more sorrow:
One cup of coffee, then I'll go.

I brought the money like the lawyer said to do,
But it won't replace the 'eartache I caused you;
It won't take the place of lovin' you, I know,
So one cup of coffee, then I'll go.
/Saxophone solo/
Tell the kids I came last night
And kissed them while they slept;
Make my coffee sweet and warm
Just the way you used to lie in my arms.

I brought the money like the lawyer said to do,
But it won't replace the 'eartache I caused you;
It won't take the place of lovin' you, I know,
So one cup of coffee, then I'll go;

One cup of coffee, then I'll go;
One cup of coffee, then I'll go.

Overall Meaning

In the song "One Cup of Coffee," Bob Marley is conveying the emotions of a man who is about to leave a relationship. The song begins with the line "One cup of coffee, then I'll go," which means that he is just stopping by to let his partner know that he is leaving tomorrow. He promises that he will not cause her any more sorrow. The phrase "one cup of coffee" is a metaphor for the brief moment of time he spends at her place. He wants to use this moment to reminisce about the past and share a final cup of coffee with her before he leaves.

The second verse of the song talks about how he brought money, as a lawyer advised him to do, but he knows that it won't replace the heartache he has caused her. He acknowledges that the money can't take the place of the love he used to have for her. The saxophone solo in the song represents the emotional pain and longing that the man is feeling. He then asks his partner to tell their kids that he came by last night and kissed them while they were sleeping. He requests that she makes his coffee sweet and warm just the way she used to when they were together.

Overall, "One Cup of Coffee" is a heartwarming and emotional song that portrays the love and longing of a man who knows that he must move on, but still cherishes the memories of his past relationships.

This planet sucks

Firmly believe Bob's passing was CIA. If you see his live concert in late 70s in California, you'll know why. He could have facilitated a worldwide uprising of those most persecuted, and it's not really along lines of colour if you look back far enough, and even recent enough (Ukr situation, to be exact).

@downtownbones

@@zzaa600 This planet has a multitude of iniquities, but I’ve learned recently that it might be possible to be content in life while working to combat them. Never thought I’d have a happy moment without meth and fentanyl, I’ve always had that filter so I could work on cultivating morality while feeling okay.

I think a big part of it is being in a setting where emotional progress is a common goal (this is coming from rehab); I’ve gotten to hear others’ experiences who were as dejected and even suicidal as me. Never known anything but escapism with drugs and music and all.

Hang in there bud, because life has a way of trying your patience like a motherfucker before flipping your world right-side-up. Please just try and take it one day at a time, shit can be so fucked up but every best day comes after some of the worst days. Hang in there, friend.
