Funny thing about songs like this: when your 20 you can't really appreciate the music; but after you reach a certain vintage you realize how incredible they are !

@kentuckyfriedchildren5385

I'm 17 and love songs of the sort, don't generalize.

Like 25?

I know this was released in 1963, and that it figured in an episode of Mad Man set in 1960. I thought of this as the Big Band Era's final, last gasp, and understood that this song was released at the beginning of 1964. This has a feel of something right on the tippy, tippy edge before the British Invasion. Very fascinating instrumental!!!

@teddymski9668

this is hardly big band material.

@zenobardot

@@teddymski9668 It is missing brass and woodwinds, and features a lot more roller-rink organ than big-band music.

On the other hand, it's clearly aping the sound of Johnny Hodges, who spent almost his entire adult life playing in the Duke Ellington orchestra, and who was in the midst of an 8-album run of organ-sax mood music featuring Wild Bill Davidson when this track was released. It's big band-influenced lounge music, with the organ supplying a poor-man's reeds and brass.
