1) Robert Parker (October 14, 1930 β January 19, 2020) was an American R&B singer and musician best known for his 1966 hit, "Barefootinβ".
Parker started his career as a saxophonist, playing with Professor Longhair on his hit "Mardi Gras In New Orleans" in 1949. Over the next decade, he played with most of New Orleansβ great musicians, including Fats Domino, Irma Thomas, and Huey βPianoβ Smith. By 1958, he had started recording solo, having a local hit with the instrumental "All Night Long".
In 1965 he signed for Nola Records, and had his biggest hit with "Barefootinβ", arranged and produced by Wardell Quezergue. This reached #2 on the R&B chart and #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Although he continued to record, he failed to repeat his success in terms of sales, and his recording career effectively ended in the 1970s. However, he continued to perform and tour for many more years, remaining especially popular in the UK.
In April 2007, in recognition of his contributions to Louisiana and national music, Robert Parker was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.

My beloved fathers favorite song. When it came on in the 60s on the radio he would pull over & dance around the car with 5 of us kids laughing so hard we cried & mom shaking her head.

When you think of the best memories of your life I bet this one is near the top.
@SuperToombs
That's awesome. Sounds like something I'd do.

I regret to bring you sad news that Barefootin' singer Robert Parker died on January 19, 2020 at the age of 89. Thank you Robert for the music and the memories. You will be greatly missed.
@Yrr666
RIP.

Saw Robert Parker in the late 60's at the Frolikin Kneecap in Market Harborough. He will be missed, but his music lives on!

Sad news indeed.Β Well, at 89 he lived pretty well. Nevertheless, what a shame that life cannot last longer - especially keeping us in an acceptable physical condition. Barefooting excited and attracted several artists, but Parker has the original and most flamboyant version. Being helped by this beautiful green barefoot dancing girl. Pure nature, pure charm !Yves

Regret to hear of his passing. I was also going to Google to see is was still alive. But at 89 he live a Long life. I always wondered who sang this song, I have always loved this song. But I was a little disappointed, to hear the song, in my head I was seeing some smiling and having fun with the song. But he was just straight faced, no smiling, no having fun with it. But I still love the song. And him singing it, he did a good job with it.
