I'm In The Mood
Robert Plant Lyrics

Feelin' funny in my mind, lord,
I believe I'm fixin' to die
Oh funny in my mind, lord,
I believe I'm fixin' to
I don't mind dyin'
But I sure hate to leave my children cryin'.

Well now look over yonder to that buryin' ground
look over yonder to that buried
It sure seems lonesome, lord
When the sun goes down

Oh, Why, Oh Why, Oh, Why
Black smoke risin', lord,
it's risin' up above my head up above my head
black smoke risin', up above my
And tell Jesus to Make up my dyin' bed

Left my home just to be with you
Well now, left my home just to be with
You got me here now that's the way you do
Come on, Come on, Come On.

Take me back drive me one more time
Take me back drive me one more
I do...? it's all down the line

I'm Feelin' funny in my mind, lord,
I believe I'm fixin' to die
Feelin' funny in my mind, lord,
I believe I'm fixin' to
I don't mind dyin'
But I sure hate to leave my children
I don't mind dyin'
But I sure hate to leave my children

I don't mind dyin'
But I sure hate to leave my children cryin'

Overall Meaning

The song "Funny in My Mind" by Robert Plant And The Sensational Space Shifters is a dark and introspective one that delves deep into the mind of the singer. The opening line "Feelin' funny in my mind, lord, I believe I'm fixin' to die" sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer's mind is in turmoil, and he feels that death is imminent.

The singer then goes on to say that he doesn't mind dying, but he hates the thought of leaving his children crying. This line underscores the deep emotional pain that he is feeling. The singer then looks over to a graveyard and says that it sure seems lonesome when the sun goes down, emphasizing the feeling of loneliness and sorrow.

The song then takes a somewhat religious turn with the singer asking Jesus to make up his dying bed. The last verse seems to be directed at a lover who he left his home for but is now feeling regretful, asking to be taken back just one more time. Overall, the song's lyrics are steeped in sadness and despair, with the singer grappling with his mortality and the consequences of his actions.

This Plant song like much of Led Zeps work was ahead of it's time, it took years to unlock the true classic status of this song

@Nomadistar

@tommurphy4307

oh yeah- it should be just 'its'

Such an awesome tune, as so much of Plant is from this era. But I respectfully disagree about it being ahead of its time. It is very much of its time, brings me right back there every time I hear it, as does Big Log, Little by Little, Tall Cool One, Ship of Fools...All these and more were beloved in their time, I can remember as if it were yesterday, damn where'd those days go...
