This Town
Robert Vincent Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In this town you've got to see their light
In this town you've got help them fight
In this town you've got to own their pain
In this town you feel

In this town you batten down your doors
In this town you stand and defend your shores
In this town you better know you're sure
In this town you die

You can parade in the shadow of mediocrity
Chase the light of day with your fantasies
Don't take this as a joke or even parody
In this town you're owned

You better know your friend and know your foe
You better test the water with your toe
You'd better realise one day you'll go
What was it really for?

The time you have it just spins and spins
From a faucet that reveals its sins
You'll be angry when it all sinks in
This town took your soul

You can parade in the shadow of mediocrity
Chase the light of day with your fantasies
Don't take this as a joke or even parody
In this town you're owned

If you let it own you you'll pay the price
It's hard to count the times or to suffice
The ones who've shone but whose souls have gone
In this town you're owned

There is a page of this book
There are a number of angles you could look
It's surprising how long we took
Before it came to this

So you parade in your sense of mediocrity
Misuse the light of your fantasies

Don't notice your fate or even see
In this town you're owned

Overall Meaning

Robert Vincent's song "This Town" describes the harsh reality of living in a small town where everyone knows everyone's business. The lyrics convey a sense of ownership over the people who live in the town. The song's message is clear: In this town, you're owned. If you want to survive, you have to face the reality of the town's troubles and help fight them. You have to batten down the hatches and stand up for yourself and your community.

Vincent's lyrics are a warning to anyone who dreams of escaping to a small town for a peaceful life. The people in this town are shown to be trapped; they must learn to defend themselves and their way of life. This is a message that could apply to anyone, anywhere, who feels trapped by their circumstances.

In conclusion, "This Town" is a powerful statement about small-town life. Robert Vincent uses his lyrics to convey a sense of ownership over the people in the town. @Robert another amazing song. I'm a singer/songwriter too but I usually just share with friends and people I know for the most part right now. I can tell that this album is one of the ones that comes along rarely these days. The type that you play all the way through over and over. Some examples that come to mind for me right now are Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jim Croce, Ferron, America, Bob Dylan to name a few. I will definitely spread the word about your music.

Robert Vincent

That's so much Kelly, I really appreciate it. You'll have to point me in the direction of some of your music if you're a singer Somgwriter. Thanks again x
