A Bronx duo remembered for "We Belong Together," a beautiful harmony ballad… Read Full Bio ↴A Bronx duo remembered for "We Belong Together," a beautiful harmony ballad that made the Top 40 in 1958, Robert Carr and Johnny Mitchell made about a dozen singles for the Old Town label in the late '50s and early '60s, none of which made remotely as much impact. As one-hit doo wop wonders go, though, they were more interesting than most. They wrote almost all of their material and had a pleasingly distinctive contrast between their closely harmonized voices (one smoky, one nasal). They also covered a more versatile ground than most acts of the genre, proving capable at up-tempo bluesy numbers as well as ballads. Robert Carr passed away in 1994 and Johnny Mitchell shortly after in 1995 after long illness'.

Maybe it's not a beloved movie (AFTER HOURS) by the Mainstream Scorsese fans, but, man... AFTER HOURS is such a great movie. Such a personal, spiritual and cinematic masterpiece.

Watching it right now for the first time in a while. I rank it as one of Scorsese's finest without a doubt. I remember first seeing it and not even knowing it was a Scorsese film at the time, just being like, "Wow, this is so fucking cool, what a great gem of a film." Then years later actually getting really into cinema and finding out who made it. It's seriously so brilliant, it's like reading a really great novella or something. Definitely some heavy "Kafkaesque" vibes in it.

Agreed! The "Mainstream Scorsese fans" probably think that his work begins with Goodfellas and are likely oblivious to his non crime/gangster related filmography. Whilst I enjoy all of that fare, I wish that he'd make more alternative stuff like this. The subversion of Chekov: a man goes on a journey: the most outlandish journey but yet plausible and just wants to survive the journey.

i saw this brilliant movie in 1985 manchester. i was bunking off school and snuck into a local cinema called the one to five oxford road. obviously never heard of marti then. but it instantly became my favourite movie of all time. friends didn't understand,but you had to be there. a movie i never get tired of watching and a song i'll never get tired of listening to...

From "After Hours." When Griffin Dunne was stuck in the rain in the middle of the night after not being able to afford the subway fare, he spotted the sign of a bar that was open. This song was playing as he entered the bar and saw Teri Garr. Such a classic movie!

This is actually one of the most brilliant doo wop songs of all time. It's a brilliant scene in After Hours of course. But if you listen to it you find that the piano is off key. It's hammering away more than playing. I didn't hear that being done deliberately in pop music until the Beatles. Very close in musical style to John Lennon's favorite doo wop song Rosie and the Originals' Angel Baby. I think that's also in After Hours.

The song played in "After Hours" is not this one. It's actually called "We Belong Together" by the same artist, which has the same sound as this song. I guess the confusion comes from the beginning of the song, which says, "You're mine." Again, the song in "After Hours" is "We Belong Together" by Robert & Johnny! Although, I do like this one too! :)
