Southstar is now very fameous here in germany. They play his song multiple times on every radio station. He was also nominated for the biggest Radio Price in the category " Best alternative Song" . Even Miksu&Macloud ( Also very big producer here in germany) want to work with him. He made it, whatever happen next.

You say Southstar didn't re record the vocals to avoid to avoid fully compensating Oliver tree and then proceed to say that he got someone to re record the vocals to turn it into his own song. sounds like it was done for a reason with intentions not to clear but bad none the less. but the conspiracy theory suggested at the conclusion of this video in my opinion is probably not far off the truth, Oliver's whole career is media stunts and clouts campaigns, this is what he does and he does it well.

I think this is not planned. I texted southstar about this a while ago and it all wouldnt make sense. He posted multiple times about this and had the whole german community behind his back. Its a power move by the big label machine to try and circumvent the ability for no name artists to just pop up on the internet unsigned and independent with the ball in their court. This way they can redistribute the track through artists they already have contracts with in which the big label already has the upper hand.

The theory may be correct, who even knows. I wanted to point out, even though Southstar redid the entire thing, it wouldn't exist without Jerk, and is still a sample regardless. I'm not 100% sure how labels and the music industry would treat it, but if I made a beat that was all my own creation from scratch, but made to sound almost exactly like a popular song, I'd get hit with a copyright statement/flag as it can still be considered plagiarism.

Southstar is p sure that it's only Robin Schulz fault, Oliver Tree is not responsible and just credited for obvious reasons.
Some manager or similar from Robin Schulz said it was his own idea and it's not even Robins fault.

It's hard to say, who exactly is responsible for this... I like the theory at the end - I mean the song is huge and Southstar is getting good streams on other songs too... Ya bc a lot of these innovative and young artists aren’t working within the frame work of “the industry” lol. A rework is common practice/vernacular in underground club scenes. A remix, edit, or bootleg is a means to a rework. What artists choose to call their composition is up to them. You sound like a boomer.

Also , south star showed a mass amount of creativity and virtuosity in his rework. It takes talent to have an ear and pick a refrain from a full track and make it into something that puts it in a totally new space. Nobody was playing the original track in clubs or at raves. South star introduced Oliver tree to new spaces and new ears. Oliver should be thankful for that.

What southstar didn’t isn’t “stealing”. What Oliver and the other producer did, is stealing.

Haven't watched the whole video yet, but just for some context when Southstar put out Miss You, he re-recorded Oliver's vocals so that he wouldn't have to give anything to him in terms of money. It's very hard for me to see where anyone's coming from when it comes to why Oliver then decided to re-record the whole song to avoid giving Southstar any money. I haven't heard of a single Southstar song before OR after Miss You, if he's going to be a 1 hit wonder it shouldn't be at the detriment of the artist he's taking from.

Imagine you already went out in Rolling Stone talking about "It's easier to flip something that's already made rather than working on something original" only to hear some random dude re-recorded the vocals in one of your songs to avoid paying you or giving you credit? Oliver took his song back, he didn't steal anything.

Well to be fair, Southstar hasn't even cleared the voice samples of Oliver Tree with him or his label. Everything he did was strictly speaking completely illegal. "Stealing" from someone (Southstar) who doesn't care about IPs etc.....well. He has no case, really.

On the German wikipedia it even says, Southstar was signed as songwriter to Warner Chappell Music since April, so even before "Miss You" dropped. He's still listed on their page. That is VERY interesting.

Personally, when your ideas get stolen I think of it as they think your work is the best they could come up with at the time, so if you think that when your ideas are stolen it’s because they don’t have the creative mindset of yours and therefore needs your ideas.

If someone took my IP, sped it up, and had millions of listeners unknowingly giving full credit to that person for the song - yeah, I'd get petty too. Southstar's Miss You is definitely transformative enough to avoid legal action, but not enough to justify condemning Tree for getting annoyed, and releasing a sped up copy of his own song.

I’d say the situation is kinda messed up, but after just listening to both back to back, I can say that like just the pitch of the Oliver tree version sounds a little better. BUT the Oliver tree version should have a feature in it of southstar.

When southstar re recorded the lyrics, he changed the words in one part from (and I never wanna miss you again) and turned it to (I never wanna meet you again). In the lyric video for the Robin schulz version, the lyrics say (never wanna meet you again), even though they are using the original oliver tree lyrics, which say miss you, not meet you. They used the lyrics from the version they stole rather than the actual lyrics in the original song.
