Confessin Midnight
Robin Trower Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Midnight and the jailer's watching
Thin dime can buy a soul
Midnight come and get me
In time you will start to know

CHORUS Justified in satisfying
Your every sweet desire
Justified in satisfying your every sweet desire

Midnight black cat creeping
Headlights straight up ahead
While I watch the shadows
Sleep tight my sleepy-head

CHORUS

Midnight steam is rising
Got no self-control
Midnight beast is raging
In time you will start to know

CHORUS You're justified in satisfying
Your every sweet desire
But don't you ever wonder if there could be something higher?

Overall Meaning

Robin Trower's song, Confessin Midnight, is a story of a person who is struggling with his moral values and desires. The lyrics use the image of 'midnight' as a symbol for temptation and the devil. The person is being watched by the 'jailer,' who represents the moral authority that controls people's actions. The lyrics suggest that a 'thin dime' can buy the person's soul, which means that he is ready to compromise his values for his desires. The person asks midnight to come and get him, which means that he is willing to give in to temptation.

The second verse uses the image of a 'black cat' and 'headlights' to create a sense of danger and impending doom. The person is watching the shadows, which means that he is looking for a way to escape his moral predicament. In the chorus, the lyrics suggest that the person is 'justified' in satisfying his 'sweet desire.' This means that he justifies his actions and believes that there is nothing wrong with giving in to temptation. However, the lyrics also suggest that he is questioning his actions when it says, 'But don't you ever wonder if there could be something higher?'

Overall, the lyrics suggest that the person is struggling with his moral values and is being tempted by his desires. He feels justified in giving in to temptation but is also questioning his actions and wondering if there is something more significant than his desires.

@timcarver5866

@eddiebazan6411

The cool jams hall of fame maybe.
I would get to work that hard and be lumped in with Michael Jackson,Madonna and those types.

@paullevine1813

@@eddiebazan6411 But what about all those that made the hall have merit in it's day , Hendrix , Page , Link Wray , Clapton, Jeff Beck,Tony Iommi Chet Atkins & the man himself Mr. Guitar, Les Paul & the older jazz cats that had them all as great players & folks that had an impact on Rock , Na Robin belongs there with the likes of the great & not the idiots they throw in there that belong in trash bin. Those that don't belong will fade into obscurity in time where the real players won't It's called being timeless which they are & the rest are not. We as players & grew up influenced by these guys know who belongs & who doesn't .

@beckfreak2000
