You are spot on about the wah-wah !!! But Dewar's voice is one of the absolute best in rock ...hands down no arguments. Loved Bill's drumming with Trower and previously with Gypsy... a very overlooked band .

Robin is probably my favourite guitar player of all time. Got into him when he appeared on BBC 'Rock Goes To College' in 1980 during the 'Victims of the Fury' tour.

My Top 10 is a little different to yours Mr Pardo but this was/is hard and would be different tomorrow.

Really enjoy your videos Pete and nice to see a Trower top 10. Been listening to him since the early days and I don't think he's ever quite matched the Bridge of Sighs album. The title track has to be his artistic and creative highpoint; wonderfully atmospheric intro and recurring theme; tremendous imagery, mood and lyrics; beautifully drenched blues guitar and Jimmy's gravelly vocal so full of presence and meaning. It's a four minute movie. The segue into the lovely arpeggios of In This Place, with another magnificent Dewar vocal and Robin's note-perfect solo, makes it the finest ten minutes of his recorded career.

After watching and responding to this vid yesterday, I was haunted in my sleep by Trower tunes. So, when I woke up this morning, I immediately came to youtube and picked out a trower song ("Somebody Calling" from "In City Dreams") and prepared my first cup of coffee, then sat down in the recliner to listen to more Trower.
Just love the magical combo of Robin and James so much, it brings tears to my eyes.!
Only a couple of things missing - something to smoke, and a certain five people to share it with. Sadly, no access to the smoke, and all but one of those 5 people are gone now.

I've been to so many concerts in my life since the 70s, but I saw Trower more times than anyone else 3 or 4 times in B'ham and umpteen times in Houston, was pretty shocked when I moved to Houston and saw that he played small clubs, got to see him with James Dewer the first five or six times and Davey Pattison at least 9 or 10 times, there was a black guy once at an outdoor show in Houston and sevral others, they were all great shows but the very best ones of course were with Dewer, didn't even know who Trower was the first time I saw them, thought I was going to a Golden Earring concert! The last show I got to see was 2015 in Houston , Richard Watts was the vocalist then and did a great job.

Saw Robin in concert 20 years ago opening for Peter Frampton. He was such a joy to watch. He still loves to play, smiling all night and interacting with the audience. Highly underrated! A shame he could never could find a vocalist to fill the shoes of James Dewer. I always thought Glenn Hughes would have been an interesting fit.

This older hippie guy that I worked with back in 1996 insisted on getting me into some music I had not heard before and it was a very hit and miss experience - but one thing that very much stuck was Robin Trower and the Bridge of Sighs disc. So grateful for that guy, can't even remember his name just the face LOL.

Hi Pete, again excellent #2 pick " Day of the Eagle " my personal favorite studio cut by him and like you " Bridges of Sighs " is really cool but after the storming out of the gate with Eagle I feel Sighs just pales a little bit. As an aside saw Trower headlining in 78 he and his band were fantastic but Wishbone Ash's Rockin set almost stole the show Eddie Money opened the show and I enjoyed thier performance especially his 2 big hits at the time. Thanks again Pete for another great video.

I became a huge Trower fan much later in life. I knew of him I just hadn't really been exposed to anything outside of Too Rolling Stoned and I believe the version I had heard was a cover by Drivin' N' Cryin' w/ Warren Haynes on the Hempilation: Freedom Is Normal album. That ended up being my introduction to Gov't Mule, not Trower. I came to hear Bridge Of Sighs about five or six years ago and I was hooked. I like the whole thing beginning to end. There are a couple of tracks that I wouldn't consider "essential" for everyone to listen to but, I like them. I began trying out different phases of Robin's catalog and found that I liked the Jim Dewar albums and the rest wasn't as strong. Your video (top 10 & the honorable mentions) has opened up an even more profound appreciation for Robin and his career. It's also expanded my collection beyond his Crysallis years. I have listened to Procol Harem with and without Robin and although I think they're better with Robin, I haven't gotten there yet with Procol's music. Thanks for the insight into one of the most under-rated guitarists of our time. Have you done any Gov't Mule videos yet? I think they are an underappreciated band too and you may be able to help some unfortunate souls to the well of creativity that is Gov't Mule/Warren Haynes.

Trower had the coolest guitar tone and James Dewar's vocals had so much to do with the greatness of their songs.Agree that Too Rolling Stoned has always been my favorite Trower song. In no particular order after that,Lady Love,Same Rain Falls,Shame the Devil,Can't Wait Much Longer,Daydream,Day of the Eagle,Bridge of Sighs/In This Place,Alathea,The Fool and Me,Confessin'Midnight.I could keep going,but I'm over 10 now. Saw him in early/middle 80's with Davy Pattison and it was very good, but wish I had seen him in the 70's with James Dewar.

I have been semi-immersed in his music recently and got as far as Bridge Of Sighs. My copy is the extended version which in addition to the remastered album gives us 5 bonus tracks all live including Day Of The Eagle and Too Rolling Stoned. I think those were from the same time of that shirt you’re wearing. For Earth Below is next. I can’t do my own top 10 but when I saw him open as headliner for Day On The Green in Oakland and kicking off with Day Of The Eagle instantly it became my favorite Trower song.

great vid Pete!! for me Trower is like Frank Marino both always being underated as far as i'm concerned more so Trower. seen Trower several times over the years, especially a few time front row at "The Vogue" in Indianapolis which is a small club venue and in my opinion the VERY best place to see a player like Trower live. i always loved the "Passion" album too which is in my top 5-6 lp's , so i agree with ya on some of his 80's albums being pretty damn good, and i think, really overlooked by the fans. on a side note and speaking of Marino, Mahogany rush 4 and especially Mahogany rush live are the 2 biggies for me, the Live album has always kicked my ass-love that album. and it has that great line for us ol' 51 year old stoners from back in the day "got a joint?"

Bridge Of Sighs-studio. Heard this on KFOG's 10 at 10 about 10 years ago. Yes, Guitar Player mag write in ballot Album Of The Year then and i still have that slab of vinyl. Never tried to learn it but did. Lots of sus chords.

Kudos for attempting a Trower top 10. Sorry to be negative but this man has made 15 albums after Back It Up. Being my favourite guitar player, and being old enough to have bought his 1st album when it came out, i urge subscribers to seek out his albums after 1990. If Benny Dancer is in your top 10 then the title track from Go My Way is very similar but better played. People always hark back to his 70s albums but this is to do a major disservice to one of the guitar greats. This man is making albums even at age 74 and his latest 'Coming Closer To The Day' just came out last month. However i totally agree that his vocals aren't great and wish he would get Dave Pattison back in the band.

'Go My Way' is a great album. It's the last one RT made that could be termed 'psychedelic blues', everything after that is more straight blues-rock imho. As for his vocals, they serve their purpose. RT is only making music that pleases him these days and I can live with his singing if it means I get to hear his glorious guitar playing on some new music. Yes Davey Pattison would do a better job but it isn't going to happen.

RT's collaboration with Maxi Priest should prove interesting when it comes out later this year.

I was fortunate enough to see him with Procol Harum as they were and still are to some degree my all time favourite band. But it was plain to see when you heard his debut solo album of Twice Removed From Yesterday that the band could never have satisfied his musical ambition. He was more of a Jimi Hendrix type guitar player as opposed to just another band member. Great guitarist who does not rely on playing as fast as possible. Why play 10 notes when 1 note played with feeling is far more effective.

Okay so this is the 2nd page I visited and now know not to ask you if you heard of certain bands. It always bothered me, that when the great guitar players of the 70s are talked about ,robin rarely gets a mention!! - my dream supergroup was always trower on guitar and scottish singer frankie miller singing - i nearly dropped when someone told me they actually were in a power trio together in the early 70s called jude lol - still cant find that record tho - pete get rid of the cry baby and get a proper wah wah a vox lol

Sorry Pete, I have to disagree, I really like RT singing his own songs. His voice fits his newer songs perfectly, and he sounds smoother with each album.
