Caledonia
Robin Trower & Michael Schenker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Caledonia, Caledonia
Seeing you walk by
Make a river twist and shout
Shakes the birds right from the sky

[Chorus]
Caledonia, who could own ya
Spirit of romance
Caledonia, Caledonia, dance

Caledonia, Caledonia
Your simple little greed
Make an inch of a loser`s wings
Lyrics courtesy Top40db.
Make a fool right out of me

[Chorus]

Caledonia, Caledonia
You make my senses fly
Give me reason to believe
And I don`t wonder why

[Chorus]

Caledonia, Caledonia
Inside of my soul
Caledonia, Caledonia
We`ll move it slow

Caledonia, Caledonia
Caledonia, Caledonia

Overall Meaning

The song "Caledonia" by Robin Trower reflects the singer's admiration for the beauty and spirit of Caledonia, which is another name for Scotland. The song is largely about the way Scotland, or Caledonia, inspires the singer and fills them with joy and wonder. The lyrics suggest that simply seeing Caledonia is enough to create a sense of awe and wonder, making "a river twist and shout" and "shakes the birds right from the sky."

The chorus speaks to a type of ineffable romanticism that the singer associates with Caledonia, suggesting that it is difficult to pin down what makes the place so special, but that it is special nonetheless. The chorus also encourages the listener to join in the spirit of the dance, suggesting that this sense of joy and wonder can be shared and celebrated by all.

In the second verse, the singer seems to suggest that the simplicity of Caledonia is part of what makes it so magical. The phrase "Your simple little greed" could be interpreted as either a criticism or a compliment, but either way, it implies that there is something pure and unassuming about Caledonia that allows it to work its magic on the singer.

Overall, "Caledonia" is a tribute to the beauty and magic of Scotland, which inspires the singer and fills them with a sense of wonder and joy.

You are spot on about the wah-wah !!! But Dewar's voice is one of the absolute best in rock ...hands down no arguments. Loved Bill's drumming with Trower and previously with Gypsy... a very overlooked band .

@kevinjohnbetts

Really enjoy your videos Pete and nice to see a Trower top 10. Been listening to him since the early days and I don't think he's ever quite matched the Bridge of Sighs album. The title track has to be his artistic and creative highpoint; wonderfully atmospheric intro and recurring theme; tremendous imagery, mood and lyrics; beautifully drenched blues guitar and Jimmy's gravelly vocal so full of presence and meaning. It's a four minute movie. The segue into the lovely arpeggios of In This Place, with another magnificent Dewar vocal and Robin's note-perfect solo, makes it the finest ten minutes of his recorded career.

@aluizioleandro2234

I love Robin Trower's work.
