ANALOG
Robots Lyrics

Oh no I wouldn't like to see
this digital made moon

Oh no I wouldn't like to see
this digital made moon

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Robots' song "ANALOG" explore the dichotomy between the digital and analog worlds, reflecting on the complexities of human emotions in a technologically saturated environment. The phrases "プラズマの光" (plasma light) and "CGのムーンライト" (CG moonlight) evoke imagery of a futuristic, digital landscape where light and reality are defined by technology. This sets a mood of contrast between the bright, artificially illuminated spaces of modern life and the more profound, heartfelt emotions that are traditionally tied to analog interactions. The opening lines seem to hint at a disconnect where "獣は目を瞑ってる" (the beasts are closing their eyes), suggesting that in this technologically driven age, individuals may be choosing to ignore authentic connections in favor of a digital facade.

As the lyrics progress, there is a poignant yearning for a meaningful connection with another person, highlighted by the statement "でも君に会いたい" (But I want to see you). The juxtaposition of time manifests prominently in the lines "現在は未来" (the present is the future) and "存在は過去" (existence is the past), illustrating the singer's struggle with time: they are anchored in a yearning for a future yet find themselves caught in the nostalgia of past experiences. The phrase "ただ心はアナログ" (but the heart is analog) underlines the essence of emotional authenticity amidst the impersonal digital age, suggesting that even as the world evolves, the heart clings to the tangible connections and emotions that define humanity.

The imagery of "灰色の世界と緋色の夢" (the gray world and scarlet dreams) further emphasizes the emotional landscape — a striking contrast where the gray signifies monotony, perhaps representing the overwhelming and sterile nature of modern existence, while scarlet stands for passion, desire, and the vividness of genuine emotional experiences. Interactions characterized by "出会いと別れ" (meetings and farewells) evoke a sense of transience, where memories can consume one's consciousness, both beautiful and painful. The line "古い名前消してく" (erasing old names) suggests a desire to let go of the past while simultaneously acknowledging the struggle of retaining one's identity amid constant change. It raises questions about the impact of digital transitions on memory and emotional continuity.

The recurring refrain "Oh no I wouldn't like to see this digital made moon" serves as a powerful statement against the artificial nature of contemporary relationships and experiences. The moon, a symbol of mystery, romance, and natural beauty, becomes tainted when rendered digital. This aversion highlights dissatisfaction with superficial interactions and an enduring appreciation for the organic, genuine qualities of love and connection. Ultimately, "ANALOG" captures the tension between aspiration and reality, balancing the desire for meaningful relationships in an increasingly digital world while grappling with the melancholic remnants of what it means to be truly human, with hearts that yearn for sincerity amidst the noise of an evolving existence.

Is anyone else thinking of the group "Anderson Robotics" from the SCP Foundation universe? The sell robotics and AI much more advanced than the state of the art to discerning (rich, well-connected) customers. Some of their product comes from genuinely being a very cutting-edge group of engineers who don't care about intellectual property laws, but for a lot of things they just "cheat" and use magic.

Battery tech too weak to power your bodyguard android? No problem! Power the electrical system with a trapped animal soul or something. Actual AI impossible to create or run on existing computers in real-time? Again, just kill a human and trap their soul after brainwashing it, and have it pilot the computer and attached robot. Their products are basically machine golems or adaptations of Haitian zombi practices dressed up as science-fiction.

I think that's what we're looking at. Sylvester stole robotic parts and assembled Meg's body on his own. That's why she's so oddly constructed. Meg isn't really a robot or AI, though, she's a ghost possessing, or trapped in, a machine. That's why Sylvester thinks that punishing her body will hurt Meg - she feels things as if she were possessing something alive. In the videos she's slowly gaining control of her shell, to the point she manages to attack her captor.

My view of the story is that Meg was the woman in the burnt house - she was someone who Sylvster abused until he finally managed to kill her and then burned the house and her corpse to hide the evidence. Through unknown means, Sylvester trapped Meg's soul and hated her so much that he wanted to keep her. So, he stole robot parts from the convention and built a simple robotic shell attached to a computer inside the tosro. The arms and legs were probably inert, but they may have had motors attached. I don't know how ambitious his plan was. Maybe she was meant to walk and talk like a human and couldn't manage that degree of coordination, or maybe she was always meant to be a passive lump.

Either way, Meg's only able to interact with the world by controlling the robot. The little random motions are her trying to move and speak, or mistaken movements when she didn't mean to move at all.

The videos are trophies - Sylvester showing off his dominance and depth by filming Meg and himself. He abandoned the idea of using her for "skits", but still liked to film himself pacing to show he was a deep thinker. That's also why he recorded the bits of the news - he's celebrating his ability to fool everyone else. If it weren't for the magic and decent electronics skill, he would be utterly pathetic.

@stinkmymeat

The idea of something just sentient enough to understand that it’s being hurt but not able to really articulate, process or do anything about being abused because it’s not human is bizarrely frightening

@Hannahs_Mustangs

you just described how most animals feel 😭😭

@coreythepeanut

@@Hannahs_Mustangswell most animals can run tho or fight back, or have some other method of retaliation in a one on one fight. But humans can throw shit hard and accurately so we can just cave the weaker one’s skulls in with a rock from relatively far away. Almost the second we see something, we can hit it with a rock. 🪨 Remember, humans are the dominant species for a reason. Range and accuracy beyond the likes of any other species on the planet.

@mrtorllin

I have no mouth and I must scream

@KateCantDraw

No, I'd say that's very understandably frightening

@jamessmithwick9745

I believe that the last word in the first distorted audio clip is “orthodontist”. She might be saying “You took the orthodontist” but it’s too distorted to know for sure. This could be a hint that Meg is either a patient of Sylvester or that Meg is a coworker that Sylvester “took”

@beansandbug1966

I feel like Meg is an inspiration of the Sylvester guy’s wife…

@Thedrunkcat

I also heard you took orthodontist

@plaguous6386

maybe “you took me orthodontist”

@user-zp2xt4hs3n

@@plaguous6386 I was thinking the same thing because the dentist or orthodontist is theorized to take her
