Una Cantaora
Rocío Jurado Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The song Una Cantaora by Rocío Jurado tells the story of Lola, a female singer who leaves the comfort of her home in search of a different life. The first few lines indicate that Lola is leaving to find a new and better life, but the singer herself remains behind to sing about her own pain and suffering. She continues to suffer, especially when she realizes that her loved one has left her. Lola's life is a constant journey, and she faces it with her singing as her only consolation. Her heart is heavy with emotions and yet she trods on.

The chorus of the song says that Lola is a singer, and her only job is to make music. She belongs to no one, and no one cares if she's happy or sad. She only has her music to express her emotions, and she continues to sing even as she travels on the seas. She begs people not to judge her for traveling alone, as she carries the burden of her sorrows. The last few lines express Lola's desire to continue traveling the world, but she has a longing to heal her broken heart. She wants to hang her pain on the highest mast of a ship, where the wind and moon can soothe her wounds.

Overall, Una Cantaora is a song about a lonely female singer who journeys through life alone with her music as her only comfort. Her heart is heavy with emotions, but she continues to sing, knowing that that's what she was made for.
