Roch Voisine was born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, but grew up in Saint Basile. His parents are Réal Voisine, mayor of Notre-Dame-du-Lac, Québec and a former English teacher, and Zélande Robichaud, a former nurse.
Voisine's musical breakthrough came with his 1989 album Hélène which sold three million copies and became a major hit not only in Quebec but also in France, Belgium and Switzerland. In 1990, Hélène was awarded the Best Album prize at the the Victoires de la Musique, France's version of Grammys. After a highly successful European Tour in 1991, he was awarded France's Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
In 1993, Voisine had his biggest English-language hit to date with the single and album both entitled I'll Always Be There, which he worked on with David Foster.
Over the years, he has continued to alternatively record both French and English-language albums. His French language work and concert tours have continued to enjoy success in Europe (especially France) and Quebec, while his English-language recordings are a frequent mainstay of Canadian Adult Contemporary radio.

Sur ta photo un peu bl^me
Je nous voyais en tandem
Ta main Darlin'
Dans la mienne
Sous tes allures un peu mondaines
Et tes mani?res ? l'ancienne
Qui sait Darlin'
Darlin'
Dans ta ville americaine
Darlin'
Tu m'as mis en quarantaine
Darlin'
Et quand tu m'entra?nes
Je ne suis Darlin'
Plus le m^me
T'auras tout fait pour me plaire
Tu fais monter les ench?res
Dis-mois Darlin'
Ou ?a nous mene
Pourquoi tant des mise en sc?ne
Et pourquoi jouer les sir?nes
Tu sais Darlin'
C'est pas la peine
Darlin'
Dans ta ville americaine
Darlin'
Tu m'as mis en quarantaine
Darlin'
The song Darlin' by Roch Voisine is a beautiful mixture of love and confusion. The singer in the song talks about their partner and their relationship that is filled with mixed emotions. The song begins with the singer talking about a photo of their partner and them, in which they saw themselves together in tandem, holding hands. The partner’s worldly looks and old-fashioned ways make the singer wonder about who they really love. The chorus Darlin' represents the confusion and mixed emotions the singer has for their partner who has put them in quarantine in their American city.
The singer further questions their partner’s behaviour, wondering why they need to put on a show and play the seductive siren. The partner's moves confuse and drag the singer in her game, changing him in the process. He feels that he knew everything about love but is now not so sure anymore, with the partner's gaze feeling like obscene gestures to him. The song then ends, repeating the chorus three times with the line,”Who sait Darlin', Qui tu aimes” (Who knows darling, who you love).
Overall, the song, with its beautiful lyrics and melody, portrays the confusion and mixed emotions of the singer towards their partner. It raises questions about love, identity, and relationships that are universal and relevant to people in any part of the world.
