JUMP
Roche Eric Lyrics

You got it tough, I've seen the toughest around
And I know, baby, just how you feel
You got to roll with the punches and get what's real
Can't you see me standin' here
I got my back against the record machine
I ain't the worst that you've seen
Might as well jump, jump
Might as well jump, jump
Go ahead an' jump, jump
Go ahead and jump, jump
Hey, you! Hey baby, how you been?
You say you don't know, you won't know until you begin
So can't you see me standing here
I got my back against the record machine
I ain't the worst that you've seen
Can't you see what I mean?
Might as well jump, jump
Might as well jump, jump
Go ahead jump, jump
Go ahead and just jump, jump
Knock yourself up
Can't you see me standin' here
I got my back against the record machine
I ain't the worst that you've seen
Can't you see what I mean?
Might as well jump, jump
Might as well jump, jump
Go ahead jump, jump
Go ahead and jump baby, jump
Come on jump, jump
Might as well jump, jump
Go ahead Knock yourself up, jump
Go ahead and jump, jump
Come on and jump, jump
Jump
The lyrics of this song are about perseverance and the importance of getting back up again every time you fall. The singer of the song is someone who has seen 'the toughest around' and understands that life is not always easy. However, despite their own struggles, they empathize with those around them and know that they too have their own battles to fight. The singer encourages others to 'roll with the punches and get what's real', i.e. to accept the challenges that come their way, instead of shying away from them or living in denial.
There is also an element of defiance in the lyrics, as the singer challenges anyone to underestimate them. They stand tall with their back against the record machine, showing that they are not afraid of the world and all that it entails. The chorus of the song, 'Might as well jump', is a statement of intent, suggesting that taking risks is a better option than standing still or running away from problems. The singer encourages others to take the same leap of faith, and 'knock themselves up', i.e. to push themselves to their limits.
Overall, the song is about embracing life's challenges and taking risks, even when it seems like the easier option is to give up or hide away. It encourages listeners to be resilient and to approach life with a positive attitude, knowing that setbacks are inevitable but ultimately, each one is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger.

I originally knew Eric from Guitar Techniques magazine. He was one of the main reasons to buy it every month. I remember him signing off from his last article stating that due to personal reasons he would be having a short break from his monthly articles. Through the tuition articles I kinda felt like I’d got to know him over the years so it really hit me hard discovering he’d passed. I bought his tuition book, the ‘Acoustic Guitar Player’s Bible’, which is probably the best advanced acoustic guitar tuition book ever printed. His CD ‘With These Hands’ is also essential listening. Both released just before he died. With YouTube and social media he’d certainly be a top name draw, much like Tommy and Mike are now. RIP Eric

Lovely to find this here and to play along with Eric again. We had a few jams about 20yrs ago which were always fun. He was very kind about my playing & how he loved the unpredictability of what we did :)
I don’t play much these days because of a muscle wasting disease, but today I got the guitar out & stumbled across Eric on YouTube...a good day reminding me of good times x

Great to hear this arrangement again! I remember that this arrangement was in Guitar Techniques magazine in the mid 2000s. Wish I had held on to my issues from back then. Thanks for putting up this blast from the past! Eric Roche was a wonderful guitarist.
