POR UN AMOR
Rocio Jurado Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Me desvelo y vivo apasionada
Tengo un amor
Que en mi vida dejó para siempre
Amargo dolor
Pobre de mí
Esta vida mejor que se acabe
Pobre de mí
Pobre de mí
Cuanto sufre mi pecho que late
Tan solo por ti.
Por un amor
He llorado gotita de sangre del corazón
Me ha dejado con el alma herida
Sin compasión
Pobre de mí
Esta vida mejor que se acabe
Él no es para mí.
Pobre de mí
Pobre de mí
Cuanto sufre mi pecho que late
Tan solo por ti.
The lyrics to Rocio Jurado's song "Por Un Amor" speak about a passionate, heartbreaking love that continues to cause the singer great pain. The first stanza describes the intensity of this love, using the phrases "por un amor" and "vivo apasionada" (meaning "for a love" and "I live passionately") to convey the depth of feeling. However, this love has also brought great suffering, leaving the singer with a "amargo dolor" (bitter pain). This leads to ambivalence in the second stanza, where the singer expresses a desire for this life to end ("mejor que se acabe") and acknowledges that the "él" (he) in question is not meant to be for her.
However, the chorus reveals that despite this ambivalence, the singer cannot help but continue to long for this love - even if it causes her great pain. She describes how she has "llorado gotita de sangre del corazón" (cried a drop of blood from the heart) and has been left with a wounded soul that is still "sufre mi pecho que late" (suffering my beating chest). The final lines of each verse repeat the same sentiment, with a sense of resignation and heartbreak in the repeated phrase "pobre de mí" (poor me).
Overall, the lyrics to "Por Un Amor" create a vivid picture of a love that is both all-consuming and deeply painful, leading the singer to feel trapped in her emotions and unable to move on.
