The late 50s and the early 60s were the absolute golden age of great stupid rock and roll songs. In addition to this one I would say the rest of the top five would be Rubber Biscuit by the chips, gas money by Jan and Arnie, Jolly Green Giant by The Kingsmen, and the legendary Surfin Bird by the Trashmen. Still, woohoo might be the greatest because it doesn't even have what you could call words. You will definitely lose brain cells by listening to any of these songs but the fun you will have along the way is completely worth it.

One day in 1959 I was eleven years old and started my record collection by buying 5 instrumentals, I did not yet have any appreciation for lyrics. This was one of the five and I still love it today. (The others, for the hopelessly curious were Bongo Rock, Teen Beat, a random Duane Eddy single and In The Mood by the Ernie Fields Orchestra (I guess I had an extra $0.79 burning a hole in my pocket.))

I lived near these guys, and back in the late 1950's, my older brother Earl was friends with some of the band, i was a bit younger and went to several sessions with the group as they prepared to record it. Simple, but a great tune musically in those days of very early Elvis and others. In a different time these guys would have had a manager and with their talent, and yes Vic was a really good vocalist, things might have been different, Wow, this was my childhood in Richmond, Virginia, I remember it well, forgive me for reminiscing, I am old now.

This brings back tremendous memories. I was in Junior high school and in the afternoon s we would "borrow" my uncle's then new Chevy Impala convertible and kruze past our school..causing all the SP students and other assorted goody two shoes to tell for any teacher nearby. We had multiple incidents of being later questioned and our parents called. We just denied it all...but whoo hoo was one of the greatest kruzing songs to also make to the top 10. One of our crowd had a 45 record player in his father's 57 or 58 Mercury...like I say we have great memories.....

If you're thinking of the Vonage commercial, that version was performed by the Japanese all-girl band "The 5-6-7-8's" and it is available on the Kill Bill Vol. 1 Soundtrack. That's the version most people know today.

Rayman Legends brought me to discovering this song. It has an underwater level called "Gloo Gloo," which is a cover of this song. They also have other levels that cover songs like Black Betty by Ram Jam, Antisocial by Trust, and Eye of the Tiger by Survivor.

I grew up playing Rayman Legends at around 7y/o, and I'm 16y/o now. Only recently have I discovered that those levels were covers of actually songs. While I like some originals, some of the covers I prefer more than the originals, like Gloo Gloo.
