Another Brick In The Wall
Rock Kids Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Leaving just a memory
Snapshot in the family album
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what'dโฒja leave behind for me?!?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.
When we grew up and went to school
There were certain teachers who would
Hurt the children in any way they could
(Oof!)
By pouring their derision
Upon anything we did
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids
But in the town it was well known
When they got home at night, their fat and
Psychopathic wives would thrash them
Within inches of their lives.
Parte 2
We don't need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all youโฒre just another brick in the wall.
We donโฒt need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave us kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave us kids alone!
All in all itโฒs just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.
"Wrong, Guess again! 2x
If you donโฒt eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you donโฒt eat yer meat?
You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddie!"
Parte 3
I don't need no arms around me
And I don't need no drugs to calm me
I have seen the writing on the wall
Donโฒt think I need anything at all
No! Donโฒt think I'll need anything at all
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.
All in all you were all just bricks in the wall.
The song "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd is a protest against the education system and the abuse of power in the hands of those in authority. The first stanza tells the story of a father-son relationship that turned sour due to the father's neglect of his son. The father leaves his son with nothing, just a snapshot in a family album or a memory. The son accuses his father of abandoning him, and by doing so, also abandoning his responsibility as a parent.
The second stanza narrates the dark side of schooling. The teachers are abusive and exploit the children, pouring their derision upon everything they did and exposing every weakness of the children. In the end, their fat, psychopathic wives thrashed the teachers within inches of their lives, signifying the ultimate power dynamic.
The chorus of "Another Brick In The Wall" is a cry for rebellion against the education system. The students don't need no education, no thought control, or dark sarcasm in the classroom. They demand that the teachers leave the kids alone and not break their spirit by demolishing their uniqueness in the name of curriculum standards. The final stanza speaks of a disillusioned youth that needs no arms to embrace them or drugs to calm them.
