Somebody's Watching Me
Rockwell煓 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who's watching?
Tell me who's watching.
Who's watching me?

I'm just an average man, with an average life.
I work from nine to five; hey hell, I pay the price.
All I want is to be left alone in my average home;
But why do I always feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone, and

I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Tell me is it just a dream?

When I come home at night.
I bolt the door real tight.
People call me on the phone I'm trying to avoid.
Well, can the people on T.V. see me.
Or am I just paranoid?

When I'm in the shower.
I'm afraid to wash my hair.
'Cause I might open my eyes
And find someone standing there.
People say I'm crazy.
Just a little touched.
But maybe showers remind me of
"Psycho" too much.
That's why. . .

I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Who's playing tricks on me?

Who's watching me?
I don't know anymore . . . are the neighbors watching
Who's watching?
Well, it's the mailman watching me: and I don't feel safe anymore.
Tell me who's watching.
Oh, what a mess. I wonder who's watching me now,
(WHO?) the I.R.S.?

I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Who's playing tricks on me?

I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.

I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I can't enjoy my tea.

I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I want my privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.

Stop playing tricks on me
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.

Overall Meaning

Rockwell's hit song "Somebody's Watching Me" is a catchy, spooky anthem about paranoia and feeling like one's privacy is being invaded. The singer is an average man with a rather mundane life, but he always feels like he's being watched, followed, and spied on. He can't even take a shower or have a cup of tea without feeling like he's being monitored or spied on.

The singer is plagued by doubts and fears, wondering whether it's his neighbors or the mailman watching him. He feels trapped and cornered, with nowhere to turn, and he doesn't know whether he's being too paranoid or if someone is really out to get him. The overall tone of the song is anxious and paranoid, as if the singer is always on edge and expects the worst to happen at any moment.

The song's lyrics tap into a universal fear of being watched or monitored, especially in our increasingly connected and digital world. It's easy to feel like someone is always watching us or tracking our every move, whether it's a government agency or a social media platform. Rockwell's song captures that feeling of unease and vulnerability, and it's no wonder that it's still a popular anthem today.

Fun Fact: Michael denied his involvement in this song for YEARS since he was at the peak of his career and didn't want to hog all the limelight from Rockwell. That's why he doesn't appear in the music video or have his name mentioned in ANY of the song's titles or credits. He wanted it kept secret so Rockwell's career could take off. This song became a hit of Rockwell's and MJ didn't take a single ounce of credit for it. Absolute respect for MJ
