Time Warp
Rocky Horror Picture Show [sdtrk] Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely (Not for very much longer)
I've got to keep control
I remember doing the Time Warp
Drinking those moments when
And the void would be calling
Let's do the Time Warp again
Let's do the Time Warp again
It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane
Let's do the Time Warp again
Let's do the Time Warp again
It's so dreamy
Oh, fantasy free me
So you can't see me
No, not at all
In another dimension
With voyeuristic intention
Well-secluded, I see all
With a bit of a mind flip
You're into the time slip
And nothing can ever be the same
You're spaced out on sensation
Like you're under sedation
Let's do the Time Warp again
Let's do the Time Warp again
Well, I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck and the devil's eyes
He stared at me and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let's do the Time Warp again
Let's do the Time Warp again
It's just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane
Let's do the Time Warp again
Let's do the Time Warp again
The lyrics of the song "Time Warp" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack describe a wild experience that is difficult to comprehend. The opening lines of the song establish the concept of time being fleeting, and that madness can take a toll on one's mind. The singer feels like they must keep control, as if they are teetering on the edge of something dangerous. Then, the lyrics describe the experience of doing the "Time Warp," which involves jumping to the left, stepping to the right, placing one's hands on one's hips, and bringing one's knees in tight. However, it seems that the most intense aspect of the Time Warp is the pelvic thrust, which drives the dancer insane with pleasure.

He had a menacing presence and a sinister looking vehicle
He stared at me and I felt a change
His gaze made me feel different
Time meant nothing, never would again
In that moment, time had no importance and would never be the same
Let's do the Time Warp again
Once more, we should perform this strange dance
It's just a jump to the left
Simply step to the left
And then a step to the right
Now take a step to the right
With your hands on your hips
Place your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
Draw your knees inward
But it's the pelvic thrust
The movement of the pelvis
That really drives you insane
That is the aspect of the dance that seems to make people go crazy
Let's do the Time Warp again
Once more, we should perform this strange dance

Dennis..... I was there with you.
It was a magical time.
In my heart, I believe I'm still that young person who dressed up as Riff Raff.
The theater is long gone. It's been gutted and serves as offices now.
Time moves on.
Memories last forever.
The mirror of today lies, there's an old man looking back at me.

I always thought the narrator doing the dance was the most hilarious part. Since he is not in the room he is presumably just dancing in silence in front of nobody
@kevnwarriner8819
His name is Charles Grey, he was in the British Movie "The Devil Rides Out" with Sir Christopher Lee (A real life SAS Hero that served in WW2) but yes Charles Grey was doing the Narration for the Audience and had no interaction with the Cast, he was edited in afterwards and nobody knew that until much later during an interview and despite being a serious Actor starred in many Movies he really loved doing Comedy, like the Black Comedy "The House In Nightmare Park" (1973) with Frankie Howard who also Starred in the Carry On Movies with Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtree (I think I spelt his surname wrong) Joan Sims and Sidney "Sid" James.

"It's just a jump to the left" the narrator said calmly.

@@kevnwarriner8819 Just a y at the end of Hawtrey; but he wouldn't have cared. He'd be grateful you knew who he was. I am getting into the older movies again, so, many thanks for posting the information Charles Grey. I shall seek out some of his films now.

I like that he sounds more frustrated each time he has to explain it.
