The Cat
Rod Willis Lyrics

Meow

A cat was walking through a cemetery
A tombstone then made him stop
He looked to see just what it said
And this how that tombstone read

Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
It said, don't dig me daddy, because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Well, don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone

The wind rose up from across the blue
The cat hollered out, what happened to you?
Toonk-a-toonk, what was that? A b-flat cat

Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Well, don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone

Then came a voice from a dark bat
Half like a dog and half like a rat
Woof woof, what was that? A fat rabbit cat

Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Just, don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone
Well, don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone, let's go

Well, that cat took off like a greasy streak
A ghost was a diggin' his crazy beat

Meow meow, what was that? I say old chap
I really don't know what this hell record's about you know

Overall Meaning

The song "The Cat" by Rod Willis tells the story of a cat who walks through a cemetery and encounters a tombstone with a message that reads "Don't dig me daddy because I'm real gone." The lyrics suggest that the cat is perplexed by this message and continues to hear strange noises as he walks through the cemetery. A voice resembling a dog and half a rat appears as well as a fat rabbit cat, adding to the eerie atmosphere of the song.

The lyrics in this song use a lot of imagery and wordplay to create a sense of mystery and confusion. The use of animal noises adds to the surreal nature of the lyrics, making the song feel like a trip into a strange and unfamiliar world. The cat's reactions to the tombstone and the sounds he hears create an overall sense of unease, as though something ominous is lurking just out of sight.

Overall, the song seems to be a commentary on mortality and the idea that death is an inevitability that we cannot escape. The tombstone serves as a reminder that even the most mysterious and elusive creatures will eventually meet their end. Despite the lighthearted tone of the song, there is a sense of melancholy and contemplation that suggests a deeper meaning below the surface.

I don't agree with the mistake theory because if you use your head the first time and you don't have to fix it the second time or have to use your body and soul or any other way to break the law plus it won't hurt to believe in God and give him a chance instead of crimes plus that would make the laws happy so why would you want to sell your best thing you got but a education is important and it would get through all the rest and a honest girlfriend or a boyfriend if you are a girl and that's way God looks at it so now tell me why crime is so important ??????🎉🎉🎉
