I think I would leave for Mexico
I think I would take a long vacation
Get in the car and go
So sweet Savannah and Atlanta, Birmingham and Baton Rouge
I've gotta find a new sensation
So I'll just be passing through
And it's a long road I'm going down
And it's a long, long time that I'll be gone
To make everything cool someday
And it's a long road I'm going down
And it's a long, long time that I'll be gone
To make everything cool someday
Now I'm in Houston, next is Tucson
I'm feeling better by the day
My loads getting lighter cause I'm rid of debts that I can't pay
And when I get to Santa Ana, I'm gonna bury all my ghosts
And then I'll find my new sensation
I'm gonna take it slow
And it's a long road I'm going down
And it's a long, long time that I'll be gone
To make everything cool someday
And it's a long road I'm going down
And it's a long, long time that I'll be gone
To make everything cool someday
Well its long, long road I'm goin down
I gotta long, long way to go
So pop in the key
Turn the ignition
Gonna find a cure
For this lonely condition
Put it in drive
Turn on the headlights
Been too long since I felt alive
And it's a long road I'm going down
And it's a long, long time that I'll be gone
To make everything cool someday
And it's a long road I'm going down
And it's a long, long time that I'll be gone
To make everything cool someday
Turn the radio
Turn the radio on
Turn the radio
Turn the radio on
It's a long, long road
It's long, long road
In Rodeo's song "On The Road," the singer reflects on his experience of driving home after a show and listening to the radio. He describes the singer rattling and Jane singing a song about the driver side door and an old tin drum banging on the shore. Through his reflections, the singer recognizes the tear in his heart as he thinks about the many friends he has left behind and the ones he may never see again. Despite the sadness that lingers, he admits to loving the coffee and the fat moon shining on the passing cars.
As the song progresses, the singer becomes increasingly lost in the dreamlike state of the road, forgetting what is real and blinded by the snow and the radio's glow. He feels as though he could drive all night, caught up in the smile of this highway, as if he were abiding on the hand of god. The lyrics evoke a bittersweet sense of longing and contemplation, as the singer tries to reconcile his love for the road with the heartache of leaving his friends behind.
Overall, "On The Road" is a poignant meditation on the transience of life and the longing for connection in the midst of fleeting experiences. The lyrics speak to the human need for belonging, as well as the deep appreciation we have for the moments of beauty and meaning that we encounter on our journeys.
