he's mine
Rodney Atkins Lyrics

With my teenage boy and a couple more from up the road
He had him by the collar
Said he caught him shootin' beer bottles down in the holler and smokin'
I said is that right?
He said, they won't speak when spoken to
So which one here belongs to you
To your back forty
When they saw me comin' on my gator
I looked in them in the eyes
And I said, he's mine that one
Got a wild-haired side and then some
It's no surprise what he's done
He's ever last bit of my old man's son
And if you knew me then there'd be no question in your mind
You know he's mine, yeah he is
Friday night football games
Livin' for the speakers to call the name on the back
Number thirty-seven just one-forty-five and five foot eleven
Maybe
Limelight barely shined on him
But everyone still remembers when
He whooped up on that boy way bigger
For taking that cheap shot our little kicker
And they threw him out
Oh man, you shoulda, you shoulda hear me shout
I yelled he's mine that one
Got a wild-haired side and then some
It's no surprise what he's done
He's ever last last bit of my old man's son
And I'll take the blame
And claim him every time
Yeah man, he's mine and he'll always be
The best thing that ever happened to me
You can't turn it off like electricity
I will love him unconditionally
And I'll take the blame
And claim him every time
Yeah, y'all, he's mine
I thank God, he's mine
Bless his heart
The song "He's Mine" by Rodney Atkins tells a story about a father's unconditional love for his teenage son. The first verse describes an encounter with an old man who caught the son and a group of friends drinking and smoking in the woods. The father owns up to the son's behavior and proudly claims him as his own. The second verse focuses on the son's prowess on the football field, as the father marks his territory by shouting "he's mine" to the entire crowd. The chorus reiterates the father's devotion to his son and his pride in his wild-haired, rebellious ways.
The lyrics of this song highlight the bond between a father and his son. The father's love for his son is unwavering, regardless of the mistakes he makes or the trouble he may find himself in. The father takes pride in his son's wildness, knowing that it is a reflection of his own upbringing. The song also emphasizes the importance of owning up to one's mistakes and taking responsibility for them.

One piece of advice I gave my sons
"If you got to fight. Fight without fear. If you love. Love without reservation."
"If you're falling of a cliff. Might as well try to fly. You got nothing to lose."

As a mother of 3 boys ( my husbands google account) i cant even explain to you how much this song means to me. I had my kids at a young age and I had the best father and mother EVER, they helped me raise my kids. This is my go to song, the one i swear was written about my oldest son Brandon and I . I have listened to this song more times than any human could and EVERY SINGLE TIME I DO the emotion that it brings is overwhelming!!! I swear every word has actually happened with Brandon and I lol. My dad helped me raise these kids in such a touching way that when Rodney says HE's every last bit of my old mans son... well its true because my kids looked at my dad as their dad too. its so fitting for us and is his and mines ANTHEM. IT MEANS SO MUCH TO US AND I THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!
