Snowman
Rodney Carrington Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who put the dick on the snowman
And embarrassed the family?
Could have used a Ball bat
Cucumber or a zucchini
But instead you used a thimble,
Somethin' you could barely see!
Who put the dick on the snowman,
And made him look like me?!

Overall Meaning

The song "Snowman" by Rodney Carrington is a humorous tune that takes a satirical look at the shenanigans people get up to during the winter season. In particular, it focuses on the antics of a mischievous prankster who, for reasons unbeknownst to others, decides to put a phallic object on the snowman in the front yard. This act of vandalism, which is discovered by the family one morning, leads to embarrassment and shame, particularly for the parents who are mortified by what the neighbors will think. The song hints at a larger issue of sexual repression and how even the most innocent of things can be seen as inappropriate or vulgar, particularly in the context of a family-friendly environment.

The lyrics use a variety of comedic techniques to draw attention to the absurdity of the situation. The repetition of the line "Who put the dick on the snowman?" creates a comical and catchy refrain that will stick in listeners' heads long after they hear the song. Additionally, the use of euphemisms such as "ball bat," "cucumber," and "zucchini" adds an extra layer of humor, as does the heightened contrast between these items and the tiny "thimble" that was actually used. The final line, "And made him look like me," adds a self-deprecating element to the song that is typical of Carrington's humor. By suggesting that the snowman resembles him in some way, Carrington is poking fun at his own sexuality and perhaps at the notion that all men are preoccupied with genitalia.

Me when I was a kid, didn't remember a Rodney Carrington being there when my dad yelled that, just thought it would be hilarious.

This was a β€œlive” performance on the Bob and Tom radio show back in the 90’s. (His other big hit was dear penis) But after the Jackson/Timberlake β€œwardrobe malfunction” in 2004 and all the FCC violations and resulting fines, the entire industry did some house cleaning and these off color songs were removed from the airwaves. Other famous (infamous?) tunes were β€œI take a look at my enormous penis by davinci’s notebook and camel toe all of which were played publicly. Not anymore.

@Cerinaya

Yeah the FCC crackdown made the Bob and Tom show suck. They couldn't play most of the songs they did before.
