Although the artist's debut album with the label, Donald Lawrence presents Rodney Posey - Live In Praise And Worship with The Whitfield Company released in 1994, introduced him to audiences nationwide. Rodney Posey is by no means a 'newcomer' to the gospel Music industry. As a writer, Posey's selections have been recorded by gospel heavyweights such as Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir. Posey’s successful debut album, produced by Donald Lawrence, allowed Posey to take his music and his message to gospel's ever-growing audience and see many of his life's dreams become reality.
The Chicago-born Posey began singing at the early age of seven. His mother encouraged her son's singing by enrolling him at the Cincinnati College Conservatory when he was thirteen years old. And, by the time he was attending the University of Cincinnati, on his way to earning a degree in psychology, Posey began touring the country with the college's Men's Glee Club. Following his college graduation, Posey continued to sharpen his skills as a church musician for a variety of Baptist and African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) congregations in Cincinnati. Eventually, Posey began to preach and took a post as associate minister at James Temple Church, where he was also ordained as an elder in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). As Posey continued to spread his professional wings, serving as minister of music for the renowned Greater Cincinnati Choral Union, he also had the opportunity to serve as assistant national organizer for Thomas Dorsey's National Convention of Choirs and Choruses. This role led to two of Posey's first recordings--"Just One Touch" and "Will You Be There" on the organization's convention recordings for Savoy Records.
In addition to his music, Posey is active as a counselor for Cincinnati's Bureau of Rehabilitation, where he secures employment for physically and mentally challenged individuals. As his counseling role develops, Posey would like to extend help to inner-city youth. "I'd like to do a street ministry,” he says. "Each time I go to a city to do a concert, I'd like to do a street ministry in that city too, in order to help turn around the lives of some of our youth."
In 1999, El Shaddai, the sophomore album was released on Crystal Rose Records. Rodney Posey called on the production talents of mega gospel producers Fred Hammond, Donald Lawrence, Cedric Thompson and Michael J. Powell, along with newcomer Michael Mindingall. As if that wasn’t enough, on “Holy” and “Lord, I Worship You”, producer Donald Lawrence brought in award winning arranger Paul Riser (“I Believe I Can Fly”) and the Detroit Symphony String section for orchestrations.
In 2002, Posey’s third release, A New Song Of Worship, was recorded LIVE, September 15, 2001, four days after the tragic Terrorist attacks. God’s Presence coupled with a room full of sincere worshippers resulted in a project packed with powerful Praise & Worship songs to usher any listener into the presence of God. Co-produced by Rodney Posey along with Cedric Thompson (Donald Lawrence & Tri-City Singers, LeJuene Thompson, John P. Kee, Men Of Standard) this project represents Rodney Posey’s talents to the fullest.
