Overall Meaning

In Rodrigo's song Perfidia, the singer expresses his pain and anguish caused by the perfidy of his lover. He starts off by saying that nobody understands what he's going through, and that he sings because he can't cry. He is alone, trembling with anxiety while everyone around him looks on and leaves. He pleads to his lover to ask God if he has ever stopped loving her.

The singer compares himself to the sea, the mirror of his lover's loneliness, which has seen him cry many times because of her perfidious love. He has searched for her everywhere but hasn't been able to find her. He questions the point of wanting her kisses when she no longer wants to kiss him. He acknowledges that his lover is far away, on new adventures, leaving him behind to suffer in the wake of her perfidious love.
