He co-founded the band Sétima Legião in 1982 and Madredeus in 1985. As his solo records started to receive increasing attention, he suspends his colaborations with these two groups in 1993 and 1994.
His solo work explores a combination of modern-classic compositions with more traditional song format and instrumentation. Several artists have participated in both his records and tours, such as Lula Pena or Adriana Calcanhotto in Alma Mater and Beth Gibbons and Ryuichi Sakamoto (Ryuichi Sakamoto) in Cinema.
His album, Cinema, was very successful in the portuguese market, reaching #1 in sales and its promotion concerts in Portugal and Spain were frequently sold-out. In this album, the ecletic roots of his music and the influence of cinema can be appreciated.

La Fête
Rodrigo Leão Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Viens dancer toujour
Cйlйbrer l'amour
Sйche tes larmes
Regarde autour de toi
Souris a n'importe quois
Bois ton vin
Sens tes roses
Suis les mots, du poиte
Prends la vie
Fais la fкte
Viens, vis la valse
Vis l'йclat des jours
Viens chanter l'amour
Ouvre tes portes
Reзois la vie chez toi
Gonfle ton coeur de joie
Il faut toucher les choses
Bois ton vin
Sens tes roses
Suis les mots, du poиte
Prends la vie
Fais la fкte
The song "La Fête" by Rodrigo Leão has a very upbeat and celebratory tone to it, as the lyrics seem to suggest. It starts off with an invitation to come and celebrate, to dance and to always honor love. The next few lines encourage the listener to dry their tears, look around them and smile at "whatever".
The chorus, sung twice in the song, suggests that in order to truly live life, one must touch things and experiences, drink wine, smell roses, follow the words of the poet, and celebrate. There is a strong emphasis placed on living fully, joyfully and unapologetically, which is conveyed through the music as well, with its fast-paced rhythm and joyful melodies.
Overall, "La Fête" is a song that encourages the listener to celebrate life and love, to embrace every moment and to be present in all experiences. It is a call to live fully and joyfully, and to not be held back by fear, sadness or sorrow.
