Born near Brecon, Wales, Glover moved with his family to London, England at the age of ten. Around that time, Glover's interests started to shift towards rock music, and by the time he was thirteen, Glover began playing guitar. While in school, Glover formed his first band, Madisons, with a group of friends, which later merged together with a rival band to become Episode Six, a band which later featured Glover's future Deep Purple bandmate, vocalist Ian Gillan. The two left Episode Six in 1969 to join Deep Purple.
After spending four years with Deep Purple, where the band saw their most successful releases in albums Deep Purple in Rock and Machine Head, Glover left the band to become a record producer for such bands as Judas Priest, Nazareth and Elf. He also released two of his solo albums, Butterfly Ball in 1974, and Elements in 1978, before rejoining his Deep Purple bandmate, Ritchie Blackmore, in the band Rainbow, where he worked on five of the band's albums. He then returned briefly to his solo career, recording his third solo album Mask in 1984. During that year, Deep Purple reformed and Glover returned to his old band, where he performs to this day.
No Solution
Roger Glover Lyrics

the damage is done and you know how
don't make a fuss you're not so bad
if you don't want to look so sad.
Don't drink the water
it's bad for you
Don't drink the water
I don't mind if you don't care
about your house or what you wear
but these times affect us all
whether you hop or fly or crawl.
Don't drink the water
it's bad for you
Don't drink the water
it's sad for you can't drink it anymore.
There's a way to make it clean
it doesn't have to be a dream
what was once can be again
I know how but I don't know when.
Don't drink the water
it's bad for you
Don't drink the water
it's sad for you can't drink it anymore.
The song No Solution by Roger Glover is a commentary on the state of the world and the damage that humans have inflicted upon the planet. The lyrics suggest that it is too late to start complaining about the damage that has been done, but it is not too late to start making changes. The reference to not drinking the water is symbolic of the pollution that has poisoned the earth's natural resources, and the plea to make it clean suggests that there is still hope for a better future if people take action. The line "what was once can be again" suggests that humans have the power to reverse the damage and restore the earth to its former state, but they need to act quickly before it is too late.
The song was released in 1974 on the album "The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast", which was a collaborative project between Roger Glover and a group of musicians and artists. The album was based on a children's book of the same name, and each song was inspired by a different character or theme from the book. No Solution was written as a commentary on the environmental themes of the book, and as a plea to take action to protect the planet.
