Before Queen, Taylor founded Smile with Brian May. Smile released one album in Japan which is now available throughout the world as Ghost of a Smile. Smile wrote a few of the songs which would later appear on Queen's self-titled debut album, and one - Doin' Alright was featured on the Smile album.
Taylor also fronted another band, The Cross from 1987 to 1991. The first album, Shove it (1988) was a solo album by Taylor in all but name - he wrote all the songs and played most of the instruments himself. This was an experiment that didn't really work for Taylor and in the other two albums by The Cross he allowed the other members of the band to contribute more, resulting in more traditionally styled rock albums.
Out of the four original members of Queen Taylor and guitarist Brian May continued to play as Queen + Paul Rodgers between 2004 and 2008. Of the other original members singer Freddie Mercury tragically died in 1991 and bassist John Deacon retired from music business in the mid-1990's.
In 2009, after the partnership between him, Brian and Paul ended, Roger worked on some new solo material from which his single The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken) was digitally released at 23th November at Queenonline.com. At the moment it is unclear how the future of Queen will look like, though Roger has announced that he will do a short tour in the spring of 2010.
Believe in Yourself
Roger Taylor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And all I did was bound to fail
To be a shaker and a mover
Keep the bad guys on your tail
Everybody wanna get to the top af the heap sometime
Everybody wanna climb to the top of the hill sometime
Everybody gotta take a little piece of the heat sometime
Everybody gotta stand on their own two feet, sometime
I mean you, and I mean you
I mean you, and I mean you
Believe in yourself, and nobody else
Everybody wants a shot at a lick of the cream sometime
Everybody wanna go, make a bit of a show sometime
Everybody need a chance, tap into the flow sometime
Everybody wanna trip, get a crack of the whip, sometime
I mean you and I mean you
I mean you and I mean you
Believe in yourself, and nobody else
People with problems
People on streets
People down your way
People you meet
The lyrics to Roger Taylor's song "Believe in Yourself" speak to the idea of overcoming self-doubt and believing in oneself even in the face of adversity. At the start of the song, the singer admits to having previously thought of himself as a loser, believing that failure was inevitable. However, he goes on to encourage listeners to be "a shaker and a mover," taking on challenges and keeping one's momentum going even when faced with obstacles. The chorus emphasizes the importance of self-belief, urging listeners to rely on themselves rather than seeking validation from others.
The song also speaks to the desire that most people have to "get to the top of the heap" or achieve success in some way. The lyrics suggest that this desire is universal, and that everyone will face their own challenges on the road to success. Despite this, the song remains optimistic and encourages listeners to take advantage of their opportunities, to "make a bit of a show" and "tap into the flow."
Overall, "Believe in Yourself" is a motivating and empowering song, encouraging listeners to trust themselves and to pursue their goals with confidence. It acknowledges the challenges that people face in their lives, but also suggests that with a strong sense of self-belief, anything is possible.

Beautiful song from one of the greatest voices and writers... loved the lyrics and the overall message fro Roger...
On another view, musically... just me think, the piano figure at the very end... it´s like reponding to Freddie´s mood on ¨My Melancholy Blues¨, Fred please don´t be sad as another party is over, being left cold sober, yes mayby left for somebody new... but you´ve got to Believe In Yourself, I mean You.

My favorite song at all. Roger Thank You.

Roger Taylor, I remember him as a drum master in his band Queen. He still is. He sang outrageous with Freddie Mercury and it hurts to bring back those memories. I said the same as Freddie Mercury, " I don't want to live old" For me, it was because my identical twin sister Michele and me, Noreen I'm 2 minutes older and would say after we all we ourselves had because of a broken home, never had a our father and didn't want him and then the world lost Freddie Mercury. My sister woulf say, " Noreen, please let me go first ". I would tell her that's God's call, not mine Michele. With her crying, made me. I said, " Michele, God hears us. He knows our path in life and others who tried to ruin us. He see's and knows how much we give, do with out and we still are happy, love life, love each other and love in God for that special person to enter each of our lives". Believe me Michele, you want it that bad with that much faith. That's belief and God here's you now. He'll make sure it happens, I know he will ". My sister and I had a keen sense of much, intuition. I told her that I'll take care of our place to rest. Our family being Italian had high blood pressure, so there was much heart failure and BRAC gene in women. If we smoked or didn't in women there was cancer. Many different kinds so, much of our family left not only because of that. However, Stamford took our Italian culture away and turned it into drug city with b***k people. It's the truth and I'm not afraid to speak a healthy argue. Our Italian community was given away, why ? That broke our family apart and I also have family I once talked to in Italy. They were so happy. We told them our favorite music is rock and to listen to Queen. They, Queen are in a secretive way are down to earth in the words with the rhythm in certain songs. We love that. Anyway, Roger U grew to be a good looking man better than some youth pictures. Didn't your band say, " Roger comb your hair a little ". Please don't take that the wrong way. You were cute. I say this all the time. When there's a close up of you playing the drums U have a way of puckering your lips while playing the drums and believe me, there's no one better. WOW luv ya Roger Taylor with Queen then and now as you. My sister and I seen you, Queen three different times. You and the others rocked NYC Madison Square Garden. Before that one it was New Haven Colosseum two times. Why the hell was the audience in the beginning took a minute to go into Queen mode and out of conservative mode. Really, I seen this audience showing much respect to Queen.
