Before Queen, Taylor founded Smile with Brian May. Smile released one album in Japan which is now available throughout the world as Ghost of a Smile. Smile wrote a few of the songs which would later appear on Queen's self-titled debut album, and one - Doin' Alright was featured on the Smile album.
Taylor also fronted another band, The Cross from 1987 to 1991. The first album, Shove it (1988) was a solo album by Taylor in all but name - he wrote all the songs and played most of the instruments himself. This was an experiment that didn't really work for Taylor and in the other two albums by The Cross he allowed the other members of the band to contribute more, resulting in more traditionally styled rock albums.
Out of the four original members of Queen Taylor and guitarist Brian May continued to play as Queen + Paul Rodgers between 2004 and 2008. Of the other original members singer Freddie Mercury tragically died in 1991 and bassist John Deacon retired from music business in the mid-1990's.
In 2009, after the partnership between him, Brian and Paul ended, Roger worked on some new solo material from which his single The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken) was digitally released at 23th November at Queenonline.com. At the moment it is unclear how the future of Queen will look like, though Roger has announced that he will do a short tour in the spring of 2010.
Loneliness
Roger Taylor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And loneliness is hell on earth
They say it's all in the mind
Well I'm sure that's true
But knowing isn't a cure
It don't help me or you
You don't know what it's like
You don't know what it's like
When you're really alone
But then it's all in the mind loneliness?
Loneliness can be so unkind
And loneliness hope you never find it
They say it's all in the mind
See how it falls off the tongue
They say you reap what you sow
They must be putting us on
'Cause you don't know what it's like
'Til you're all on your own
No you don't know what it's like
Until you're alone
Yeah you don't know what it's like
Wait 'til you're really alone
But then it's all in the mind
Loneliness, loneliness, loneliness
The song "Loneliness" by Roger Taylor speaks about the feeling of being alone and how it can be the greatest curse and hell on earth. The artist believes that people say loneliness is all in the mind, but he disagrees. Just knowing that loneliness is in the mind does not mean it can be easily cured. The lyrics convey that being alone can be unkind, and the hope is that people will never experience it.
Taylor emphasizes that one cannot truly know what it feels like to be alone until it happens to them. The artist repeats the line "you don't know what it's like" to emphasize the message that people can only understand the emotion of loneliness when they have no one around. However, the song ends on a hopeful note when the artist says that loneliness is all in the mind, though this does not mean that it is not a difficult emotion to handle.
In conclusion, "Loneliness" is a song that delves deep into the emotions that come with being alone. The lyrics speak on how it can be a curse and express that one cannot truly understand loneliness until they experience it.
