Before Queen, Taylor founded Smile with Brian May. Smile released one album in Japan which is now available throughout the world as Ghost of a Smile. Smile wrote a few of the songs which would later appear on Queen's self-titled debut album, and one - Doin' Alright was featured on the Smile album.
Taylor also fronted another band, The Cross from 1987 to 1991. The first album, Shove it (1988) was a solo album by Taylor in all but name - he wrote all the songs and played most of the instruments himself. This was an experiment that didn't really work for Taylor and in the other two albums by The Cross he allowed the other members of the band to contribute more, resulting in more traditionally styled rock albums.
Out of the four original members of Queen Taylor and guitarist Brian May continued to play as Queen + Paul Rodgers between 2004 and 2008. Of the other original members singer Freddie Mercury tragically died in 1991 and bassist John Deacon retired from music business in the mid-1990's.
In 2009, after the partnership between him, Brian and Paul ended, Roger worked on some new solo material from which his single The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken) was digitally released at 23th November at Queenonline.com. At the moment it is unclear how the future of Queen will look like, though Roger has announced that he will do a short tour in the spring of 2010.

Oh Oh Oh
I would not fight for my country
I would not work to no rule
Don't have no truck with no power game
Won't be some other jerks tool
Don't have no part 'cos one party and
Another's all the same
All the same
Gonna play it
(Workin' for some other man)
At my own game
Oh Ee Ooh
'Oi you
Don't wanna die for some old man's crusade
Don't wanna hear what they feed
Don't wanna kill for some cause of the age
Don't wanna cry for somebody else's need
Don't want no piece of no flag in the breeze
Don't want no part cos one party and
Another's all the same
All the same
Gonna play it at my own game
Oooooh not me
Oi you
You don't get me
The lyrics of Roger Taylor's song "My Country" express a strong anti-establishment sentiment and a rejection of blind patriotism. The song begins with the line "Something horrid," which sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. Taylor declares that he would not fight for his country or be subject to any rules imposed by those in power. He refuses to be used as a tool by other people and condemns the political system, suggesting that all parties are ultimately the same.
Taylor continues to express his aversion to being part of any war or following the commands of others. He rejects the idea of sacrificing his life for an old man's crusade and refuses to be fed propaganda. He refuses to kill for any cause or shed tears for someone else's needs. Taylor rejects the notion of nationalism symbolized by a flag in the breeze and emphasizes that he wants no part in any political party, as he believes they are all essentially the same. He asserts his determination to play the game of life on his own terms and asserts his independence.
Overall, "My Country" can be interpreted as a fierce critique of blind nationalism, political manipulation, and the sacrifices demanded by those in power. It reflects an individual's rebellion against conforming to societal expectations and a desire to be true to oneself.
